Wild Things win series opener at Schaumburg
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Andrew Czech and Cole Fowler homered, Kobe Foster won his seventh game and the Wild Things battled back to beat Schaumburg 9-6 in a series opener Friday night at Wintrust Field.
Schaumburg scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead, but Washington answered with a five-run inning of its own in the fifth to take a 7-5 advantage.
Czech hit his 14th home run of the season, and the 101st of his Frontier League career, in the fourth inning. The solo shot put him in sole possession of third place on the league’s all-time list.
Fowler had a two-run homer in the big fifth inning.
Washington had production from just about everybody in the lineup. Seven different players drove in at least one run, and eight had at least one hit.
Foster (6-1) went six innings. He did give up two home runs to Schaumburg’s Anthony Colarco.
Chad Coles, Michael Foltz Jr. and Landon Ginn each followed Foster on the mound with one scoreless inning of relief. Ginn notched his fifth save.
