FLORENCE, Ky. – Connor Peek and Caleb Ketchup homered as the Wild Things opened a series at Florence with a 6-2 victory over the Y’alls on Tuesday night at Thomas More Stadium.

The win guarantees the Wild Things of a winning road trip. Washington has won four straight and is 5-2 on the current nine-game road trip.

Washington took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Cole Fowler hit an infield grounder with Antony Brocato on third base. The throw went to home plate and Brocato slid around the tag for the game’s first run.

Isaias Quiroz and Kyle Edwards added RBI singles in the inning to give Washington a 3-0 advantage.

Florence’s only scoring came in the bottom of the fourth when Brett Bloomquist hit a two-run homer to center field that cut the Wild Things’ lead to 3-2.

Washington starter Kelvin Perez (3-2), making his second professional start, went five innings, allowing five hits and two runs. Chad Coles, Michael Foltz Jr., Mack Anglin and Landon Ginn followed Perez on the mound and combined for four shutout innings, allowing only one hit.

Peek, the rookie out of Georgetown, hit his first professional home run, leading off the fifth inning against Florence starter Evan Webster (6-5) to push Washington’s lead to 4-2.

Andrew Czech had an RBI single in the seventh and Ketchup smacked his eighth home run in the eighth inning to cap the scoring.
