Wild Things extend winning streak to 5
FLORENCE, Ky. – Jeff Liquori hit a two-run homer, newly acquired Billy Sullivan had a tiebreaking double in the seventh inning and the Wild Things stretched their winning streak to five games with a 6-3 win over Florence on Wednesday afternoon.
Three Washington relief pitchers combined for five scoreless innings. Colt Anderson (2-1) allowed one hit over three innings in relief of starter Esteban Rodriguez. Chad Coles retired three batters in the eighth inning on only four pitches and Landon Ginn pitched the ninth for his seventh save.
Washington trailed 3-2 entering the sixth inning. Antonio Monroy tied it with a solo homer.
In the seventh, Sullivan, a catcher who was picked up on waivers from Joliet earlier this week, hit a tiebreaking double that scored Caleb Ketchup. Jeff Sabater doubled home Sullivan to make it 5-3. Monory was then retired when he bounced into a fielder’s choice to first base, but Sabater, who started the play on second base, never stopped running and beat the throw to home plate to give the Wild Things a three-run lead.
Liquori hit his ninth home run of the season in the fourth inning off Florence starter Nathan Lawson.
