POMONA, N.Y. – Andrew Czech hit a tiebreaking home run in the eighth inning and Max Folkman picked up his first save as a professional as the Wild Things rallied late to beat the East Division-leading New York Boulders 8-6 on Saturday night.

Washington overcame a 5-1 deficit. The Wild Things scored four runs in the seventh to tie the score. With the Wild Things down 5-2, Antonio Monroy had a base hit that eluded the Boulders’ right fielder on a bounce and went for what was scored as a tying three-run triple.

Czech’s home run, his 17th of the season, came off reliever Jalon Long (4-3) and gave Washington a 6-5 lead. Cole Fowler added an RBI double that scored Caleb Ketchup in the eighth and gave the Wild Things a two-run lead.

Jeff Liquori drove in an insurance run in the top of the ninth.

In the bottom of the ninth, Washington’s all-star closer Landon Ginn retired the first two batters before giving up a single and hitting Jason Agresti with a pitch. Ginn then threw eight consecutive balls to force in a run and pull New York to within 8-6.

Folkman, the sixth Washington pitcher of the game, was brought in at that point and he got John Schroeder to line out to right field on a 3-2 pitch to end the game.

Colt Anderson (3-1) was the winning pitcher in relief.

Every Washington position player had at least one hit.

Before the game, Washington put starting pitcher Kobe Foster on the 14-day injured list, retroactive to July 16, with a foot injury and activated outfielder Ryan Ford from the 14-day IL.
