Washington Wild Things Washington’s Anthony Brocato, left, and Kobe Foster have been named the Frontier League’s Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

For the first time in eight years, the Wild Things have swept the Frontier League’s weekly player awards.

Lefthander Kobe Foster, who tossed the fourth no-hitter in the franchise’s 24 seasons on Friday night against New Jersey, was named the Frontier League’s Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

It also was announced that left fielder Anthony Brocato was selected as the league’s Player of the Week after hitting five home runs in four games.

It was the first time that the Wild Things swept the weekly awards since outfielder James Harris and pitcher Chase Cunningham did so in 2018.

Foster threw the most dominant game ever by a Washington pitcher against New Jersey at EQT Park. He struck out 14 batters and walked only two. He had a perfect game for 6 2/3 innings in the Wild Things’ 12-0 victory.

Foster’s 14 strikeouts is the franchise record for a nine-inning game. The total matched a 14-strikeout performance by Justin Hall in a game at Windy City in the 2011 regular-season finale. Hall pitched 11 innings in that contest.

Foster has a 5-0 record and a 0.62 ERA this season. In 43.2 innings, he has allowed only 20 hits and eight walks. He has 42 strikeouts.

The Wild Things’ all-time winningest pitcher, Foster has a career record of 35-10. He’s also the franchise’s career leader in strikeouts, innings pitched and starts.

Brocato set a Wild Things record Wednesday at Windy City when he became the first player in franchise history to hit three home runs in a game. The feat included two home runs in the same inning, and each of the home runs were hit off a different pitcher.

For the week, Brocato went 10-for-19 with five home runs, two doubles and drove in 14 runs. He narrowly missed a sixth home run when he hit a drive off the wall in center field on Saturday night.

Brocato has 10 home runs this season and is in third place on the Frontier League’s all-time home run list with 98. He’s two behind second-place Stephen Holdren, who hit 100.

The Wild Things are in first place in the Central Division with a 22-9 record. They will begin a three-game series at home tonight (7:05) against the Mississippi Mud Monsters.
