Long pitches Wild Things past Crushers
AVON, OHIO – Maddox Long took a shutout into the eighth inning and the Wild Things scored five runs late in the game and defeated Lake Erie 8-3 Saturday night.
Long (3-1) allowed five hits over 7⅔ innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out eight. Relievers Kelvin Perez and Michael Foltz Jr. finished the game.
Washington took a three-run lead into the eighth and pushed the margin to 4-0 when Connor Peek’s sacrifice fly scored Kyle Edwards.
Lake Erie chased Long and scored its three runs in the bottom of the eighth.
In the top of the ninth, the Wild Things scored four insurance runs. Caleb Ketchup led off a double and scored on a single by Cole Fowler. Ryan Ford doubled, Kyle Edwards walked, Fowler scored on a wild pitch and Antonio Monroy hit a two-run single up the middle.
Fowler drove in two runs and Ketchup had a double and triple.
