Wild Things’ Brown headed to Twins
For the second time in four days the Wild Things lost one of their key players to a major league organization.
Second baseman Graham Brown had his contract purchased by the Minnesota Twins, pending a physical, it was announced Friday. The move comes on the heels of starting pitcher Andrew Herbert being picked up by the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday.
“The best part of my job is getting to tell guys that they are being signed, especially when it’s their first opportunity in affiliated ball … and I got the pleasure of doing it twice this week for two really good dudes,” Washington manager Tom Vaeth said. “Graham is everything a manager could ask for. He worked extremely hard, was a great teammate and just an overall joy to have in the clubhouse. He specifically chose to come to Washington to get an opportunity with an organization and we’re thrilled to have played a small part in making that happen. We are going to miss Graham, but we are excited for big things that lie ahead for him.”
Brown was in his first season with the Wild Things after signing in the offseason as a free agent. He played last year in the Frontier League with Evansville.
Brown reached base safely in each of the Wild Things’ first 11 games and had a 17-game hitting streak, dating back to last season, that was snapped when he went 0-for-3 on Wednesday. He did not play in Washington’s 1-0 loss to Florence on Thursday.
Brown was batting .395 with two doubles, two home runs, six RBI and seven stolen bases.
Before joining Evansville last year, Brown ended his collegiate career at Coastal Carolina, where he hit 36 home runs and had 22 stolen bases. He began his collegiate career at Potomac State Junior College in West Virginia.
Brown will be the 53rd player to go directly from the Wild Things to a major league organization and the third moved to Minnesota in two years. Last season, the Twins purchased the contracts of pitcher Brent Francisco and outfielder Caleb McNeely.
Game rained out
The Wild Things’ series opener Friday night against the Joliet Slammers was postponed because of rain and a power outage at EQT Park. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 5:05 p.m.
Fans with tickets for Friday’s game can exchange them for any remaining game in the 2026 season, subject to availability.
Both games Saturday will be seven innings.
Roster move
Washington has re-signed pitcher Jack Brodsky and released relief pitcher Eliot Traver, who had been on the 14-day injured list.
Brodsky was among Washington’s final round of cuts during spring training. He was signed in the offseason out of the University of Tampa, which won the NCAA Division II national title last year. Brodsky was injured last year at Tampa and had not pitched since appearing in seven games in 2024.
Traver is a rookie out of Northwestern Ohio. He was off to a slow start with Washington and had a 12.00 ERA over three outings before landing on the IL.
