SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Andrew Czech hit a two-out, two-run double that capped a four-run top of the ninth inning as the Wild Things rallied for a 7-5 win over the Schaumburg Boomers in a series opener Tuesday night at Wintrust Field.

Washington’s comeback snapped Schaumburg’s six-game winning streak. It also moved the Wild Things (11-5) into a first-place tie with Evansville in the Frontier League’s Central Division.

Washington trailed 3-2 entering the eighth inning but tied the score when Caleb Ketchup scored on a sacrifice fly by Czech.

Schaumburg, however, regained the lead by scoring twice in the bottom of the eighth, the last run coming on an RBI triple by Alex Calarco. Washington right fielder Jeff Liquori was injured on the play and had to be carried off the field.

In the top of the ninth, Schaumburg reliever Tanner Shears (0-1) walked newly signed Antonio Monroy to start the frame. Kyle Edwards followed with a single and both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Three Hillier. Connor Peek followed with a walk that loaded the bases with one out.

Caleb Riedel replaced Shears and struck out the first batter he faced.

Ryan Ford, who was Liquori’s replacement, hit a line drive up the middle that scored both Monroy and Edwards to tie the game at 5-5. Czech followed with his two-run double to the wall in left centerfield.

Washington closer Tyler Davis pitched the bottom of the ninth for his second save.

Michael Foltz Jr. (2-0) was the winning pitcher in relief. Washington starter Zach Kirby allowed five hits and three runs over six innings.
