Wild Things give Vaeth 300th career win

AVON, Ohio – Cole Fowler hit a three-run double on an 0-2 pitch, Hector Garcia had a quality start and the Wild Things defeated Lake Erie 5-2 Saturday night at ForeFront Field.

The victory was the 300th in the career of Wild Things manager Tom Vaeth. The winningest manager in Wild Things history, Vaeth has a 300-199 record.

Washington has won four of five games on its current road trip that ends Sunday.

Fowler’s double came with two outs in the third inning and gave Washington (14-6) a 3-0 lead. Caleb Ketchup followed with a single that scored Fowler and put the Wild Things up 4-0.

Garcia (3-0) scattered seven hits over seven innings. He allowed one run, on a solo homer by Pavin Parks. Garcia struck out six and did not walk a batter.

Washington pushed its lead to 5-1 in the seventh inning when Ryan Ford scored from second base on a wild pitch.

Lake Erie closed the scoring in the ninth on a solo home run by former major leaguer Alfredo Gonzalez.

Crushers starting pitcher Fraynel Nova (1-2) gave up five runs but struck out eight.
