Wild Things game rained out, won’t be made up
The Frontier League expanded its schedule to 102 games this year, but the Wild Things won’t play that many contests.
Washington’s game Thursday night against Gateway at EQT Park was rained out after three innings and will not be made up. The Wild Things will play only 101 games this season.
The Wild Things led 1-0 when a rainstorm hit Washington and the players were called off the field before the fourth inning could start, at 8:39 p.m. Following a 30-minute wait, the game was canceled.
The only run of the game was scored in the bottom of the first inning. Washington’s Anthony Brocato, who is tied for the Frontier League’s single-season home run record with 36, led off the bottom of the first inning with a double off the wall in center field against Gateway starter Blake Peyton. Brocato moved to third base on a one-out single by Miles Simington. Peyton then caught Simington off guard with a pickoff throw. Simington broke for second base but the throw from Gateway first baseman Derek Williams was wide and went into left field, allowing Brocato to trot home with a run.
Washington starter Drew Stegura allowed one hit and two walks. He struck out three.
Because the game was canceled before it became an official game, the statistics do not count.
Washington will play its final regular-season series beginning Friday night (7:05) against Schaumburg at EQT Park. The series will be important for the Boomers as they lead the West Division by one game over Windy City.
