Anarchy or Tyranny is the question

2 min read

I am tired of the argument of left vs. right or progressive vs. conservative. Both sides of this argument scream Anarchist or Tyrant the first chance they get to label and scare those who are uninformed or who just caught a sound bite on the TV. The true argument to be discussed is at what point on the spectrum between anarchy and tyranny do we wish to live?

First let’s define anarchy and tyranny.

Anarchy; a situation of confusion and wild behavior in which the people in a country, group, organization, etc., are not controlled by rules or laws, absence of government, a state of lawlessness or political disorder due to the absence of governmental authority.

Tyranny; oppressive power; especially: oppressive power exerted by government

The vision of the founders was to not get lost in the political minutia of any debate of liberal or conservative viewpoints but to position the new government in the balanced center between the two extremes of tyranny and anarchy. The founding fathers created a system of government that was based on Anglo-Saxon common law. These laws focused on the power of the individual not the centralized state. It kept decision making at the local level for resolve. It believed that these rights were unalienable and could not be toyed with without the wrath of divine justice. They found similar systems in the Law of Moses and fashioned America’s constitution from this framework.

The founders also had much experience with tyrannical English monarchs having lived under the laws of rulers that suppressed individual freedoms keeping the people divided and poor.

There is force within man to drive their power toward tyranny, seeking more control over the populace and the fruits of their labor. It seems to be a natural human weakness that the founders knew all too well. That is why the constitution is a document that was designed to control the very nature of humans who gravitate toward tyranny and to keep the country in the balanced center between the two extremes.

So when listening to the endless arguments from both sides of the argument, always consider if the laws being discussed give you more freedom or less freedom. Vote for freedom now before you have to fight for it.
