Final farewell to ‘The Hobbit’

2 min read

Every Christmas for the past three years my family has gone to see “The Hobbit.” This year was no exception. The adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” comes to a close in “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.”

After making it to the Lonely Mountain, Bilbo and the company of dwarves now must defend it from elves, orcs and men. With war looming over the company, a much darker force threatens to conquer the mountain. With all these events unfolding, the question is: How will this day end?

The consequences from this journey will lead to the events of “The Lord of the Rings.”

I usually don’t favor the movie version over the book, but this movie blew me away.

The movie contains more of the story, such as the dark powers that are returning, which is only hinted at in the book. The movie also introduces movie exclusive characters such as Tauriel, played by Evangeline Lilly, a “she-elf” whose loyalties lies between her people and her heart. Legolas, played by Orlando Bloom, returns, as well. Many other characters are introduced, like the bold Dain, King of the Iron Hills, Orc leader Azog and the wizard Radagast.

Any fan of the “Lord of the Rings” will fall for this epic conclusion to a magnificent journey. Anyone who read the books knows how it ends. Although, it is still worth seeing with the intense action scenes and an excellent plot. All these come together for a final farewell to this Middle-Earth saga.
