Crybaby tour comes to Pittsburgh
By Nicole Bakaitis
A young, uprising artist who was a big hit on season 3 of “The Voice,” Melanie Martinez, recently played a headliner show in Pittsburgh at Stage AE on Sept. 15. I had the opportunity to see her show with a few of my friends, and thought her show was very entertaining.
Martinez played roughly 14 songs, including “Pity Party,” “Carousel” and “Soap,” with an additional two as her encore round. All of the songs were from her album “Crybaby,” which was released this August. Each song sounded about the same as they did on the album, showing that she isn’t a studio-only artist. Martinez and her accompanying musicians showed signs that they were well organized and knew what they were doing. No technical or equipment issues were encountered or noticed by the audience, either.
Things are still uncertain as to what Martinez’s plans will be in the future, but she will be continuing with her current tour until Nov. 29, playing her final show in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Hopefully Martinez will make her way back to Pittsburgh in the near future with some new music to share! To keep updated with Melanie you can follow her on Twitter @melanieLBBH.
“Handsome Ghost” opens for Martinez
By Amanda Reilly
“Handsome Ghost” is an upcoming band that recently released their first EP “Steps.” They are currently on tour with Melanie Martinez. I saw them at Stage AE, with a few friends, having no idea who they were or what they sounded like.
Before buying tickets, I asked some friends if they had ever heard of them, and the answer was always, “no.” We were all anxious to see if they were any good. When they walked on stage and began their first song, the crowd began to mumble and smile at each other. It seemed that everyone was in agreement that they were great. After every song people cheered and wanted more. The group had a unique sound that had a feel-good vibe.
After the concert, I went home and bought their EP online and listened to it until I fell asleep. I definitely believe that “Handsome Ghost” has a bright future ahead with their interesting sound and fast-growing number of fans.
