The WPIAL has chosen Robert Morris University’s Joe Walton Stadium as the host for the Class 2A and 1A championship games this November.

Located in Moon Township, the stadium seats 3,000 and opened in 2005. When the PIAA expanded to six classifications, the WPIAL faced a scheduling issue with its venue for the football championships. Six games at Heinz Field was not doable, so the district began accepting bids for the two smallest classifications.

“It’s a high-quality Division I football facility,” Tim O’Malley, WPIAL executive director said.

The other four championship games will be played Friday, November 18 at Heinz Field. The WPIAL also announced championship venues for other sports.

The baseball championships will continue to be played at Consol Energy Park as part of contract that runs through 2020. Softball will also remain at California University’s Lilley Field.

The Petersen Events Center on the University of Pittsburgh’s campus in Oakland will continue to host the basketball championships and Highmark Stadium will host the soccer championships.
