Teen killed in crash on Route 19 in Ruff Creek

A teenager was killed Wednesday afternoon when his car struck a dump truck on Route 19 in Washington Township at the Ruff Creek interchange.

State police said Nicholas Hillsman was traveling north on Route 19 shortly before 4:30 p.m. when he crashed into a tri-axle truck traveling south on the road as it turned onto the Ruff Creek on-ramp to head south on Interstate 79.

Hillsman, 19, of Rices Landing, was taken by ambulance to WHS-Greene hospital in Waynesburg, where he died, police said.

The driver of the truck, James Weldon Smith, 41, of McClellandtown, was not injured in the crash. State police did not say if he would face charges or citations.

Police closed the Ruff Creek exit while investigating the crash.

Waynesburg-Franklin volunteer firefighters assisted state police at the scene.
