Burgettstown 50, Shenango 48: Emly Prasko scored a team-high 15 points as Burgettstown rallied to defeat Shenango 50-48 in a Section 1-AA game.
Trailing 39-35 entering the fourth quarter, Burgettstown (1-0, 3-1) outscored the Wildcats by six to defeat them in regulation.
Shenango, which was led by Addie George’s game-high 20 points, had a 28-26 lead at halftime.
Madison Harden also had 17 points for Shenango (0-1, 1-2).
Charleroi 58, South Allegheny 23: Charleroi dominated from the start of its Section 2-AAA opener as it routed South Allegheny, 58-23.
The Cougars quick start, including outscoring South Allegheny 13-1 in the second quarter, had them taking a 27-8 lead into halftime.
Leading Charleroi (1-0, 3-1) was Kaitlyn Riley with 15 points. Sierra Short and Maria Claybaugh had 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Mckenzie Duvall paced South Allegheny (0-1, 3-1) with 11 points.
Greensburg Central Catholic 55, Carmichaels 21: Carmichaels didn’t get the first-quarter results it desired. The Mikes didn’t score until the second quarter as Greensburg Central Catholic ran away with a 55-21 victory early in both teams Section 3-AA opener.
Carmichaels (0-1, 2-3) trailed 35-11 at halftime.
The Mikes were led by Jessica Phillips, who finished with seven points.
Bella Skatell scored a game-high 21, while Anna Eisaman had 17 to pace Greensburg Central Catholic (1-0, 1-2).
Peters Township 53, Chartiers Valley 43: After a back-and-forth first half, Peters Township pulled away in the third and fourth quarters to defeat Chartiers Valley 53-43 in a non-section game.
The Indians, who built a 14-5 lead after one, allowed Chartiers Valley to take the lead in the second quarter and take a 21-20 lead into halftime.
However, Peters Township (4-0) regained its advantage in the second half led by Makenna Marisa, who finished with a game-high 20 points.
Isabella Mills had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Indians, while Olivia Ziegler had 10 points.
Chartiers Valley (2-2) was paced by Mackenzie Wagner and Megan McConnell, who finished with 20 and 17 points, respectively.
Serra Catholic 60, California 57: Despite building a 12-point lead in the first quarter, California dropped its Section 3-AA opener to Serra Catholic, 60-57.
Serra Catholic, which was outscored 18-6 in the first quarter, scored 21 points in the second and 22 in the fourth to complete the comeback.
California (0-1, 2-2) had a 43-40 lead entering the fourth quarter.
The Trojans were paced by a team-high 17 points from Bailey Vig. Love Porter also scored 14 points.
Serra Catholic (1-0, 2-2) was led by Miele Madigan’s 23 points. Rayna Andrews finished with 18 points.
Belle Vernon 41, Yough 20: Belle Vernon shutout Yough in the first quarter and went on to defeat the Cougars 41-20 in a Section 3 of Class 4A game.
The Leopards hot start – they outscored Yough 23-0 in the first quarter – earned them a 30-2 lead at halftime.
Belle Vernon (1-0, 3-1) had nine different players find the scoring sheet, including Caitlyn Trombley and Taylor Rodriguez tying for a team-high with eight points.
Yough (0-1, 0-5) was led by Corrin Paquette’s 10 points.
Jeannette 64, Bentworth 41: Dymond Crawford made seven three-pointers and scored a game-high 36 points as Jeannette defeated Bentworth 63-41 in a Section 3-AA game.
Jeannette (1-0, 1-2) also found scoring from Hannah Nichols, who finished with 10 points.
Bentworth (0-1, 0-3) was led by Gina Vito’s 10 points.
Boys Results
McGuffey 46, Carlynton 43: C.J. Cole had a game-high 18 points as McGuffey bounced back from an overtime loss to defeat Carlynton, 46-43, in a non-section game.
The Highlanders had a nine-point lead, 13-4, after the first quarter and held off the second-half rally by Carlynton, which outscored McGuffey in both the third and fourth quarters.
Trent Belleville had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds for McGuffey (0-1, 3-1).
Chase Miller also helped on the glass with 12 rebounds for the Highlanders.
Carlynton (1-3) was led by DeQuay Canton, who had 15 points.
