Raiders place 4

at Beast of East

The Waynesburg High School wrestling team had four placewinners Sunday at the Beast of the East tournament held in Newark, Del.

Jackson Henson (138) and Kyle Homet (170) were the highest-placing Raiders as each finished fourth in their respective weight classes. Homet reached the semifinals Sunday before losing by fall to top-seeded Julian Ramirez of Blair Academy. Henson won his first three bouts before losing in sudden victory to fourth-seeded Marshall Keller of Christiansburg (Va.).

Kyle Howard (152) placed seventh and Caleb Morris (132) was an eight-place finisher.

In the NBA

DeMar DeRozan scored 21 points, Jonas Valanciunas had 13 points and a season-high 16 rebounds and the Toronto Raptors won their ninth straight home game Sunday, beating the Sacramento Kings 108-93.

  • Reggie Bullock scored a career-high 20 points, and the Detroit Pistons tied a franchise record with 17 3-pointers in a 114-110 victory over the Orlando Magic.

The Pistons have won three in a row after starting December with a seven-game losing streak. They almost let this game slip away when Orlando went on a 19-0 run to cut the lead to five late in the fourth, but Detroit was able to hold on.

Nikola Vucevic had 24 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists for the Magic. They have dropped five straight and 16 of 19.

  • LeBron James played the first half wearing a pair of shoes – one black, one white – reading “equality” in gold capital letters and finished with 20 points, 15 assists and 12 rebounds to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers past the Washington Wizards 106-99 for their 18th victory in 19 games.

James had his fourth triple-double in the past five games despite being called for four fouls in the final quarter. Kevin Love added 25 points and nine rebounds for the Cavs.

Bradley Beal led Washington with 27 points, and John Wall had 15 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in 32 minutes in his third game back after missing nine with an injured left knee.

  • Victor Oladipo scored 26 points, Domantas Sabonis had 17 and Indiana beat Brooklyn 109-97.

Allen Crabbe shook off his recent struggles, scoring 17 points in the first half on 5-for-7 shooting, including four 3s. He didn’t score in the second half.

Quincy Acy, Caris LeVert and Joe Harris each had 14 for Brooklyn.

In the NHL

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson was suspended for two games without pay by the NHL on Sunday for boarding Tampa Bay Lightning forward Vladislav Namestnikov.

Johnson was assessed a minor penalty for slashing and a major penalty and game misconduct for boarding in the second period of Colorado’s 6-5 home loss Saturday night.

The suspension will cost Johnson $64,516.

  • Connor Hellebuyck stopped 24 shots for his eighth career shutout, Patrik Laine got his team-high 16th goal of the season and the Winnipeg Jets beat the St. Louis Blues 4-0.

Adam Lowry, Mark Scheifele and Josh Morrissey also scored for Winnipeg. Morrissey also had an assist, and Andrew Copp and Jacob Trouba added two each to help the Jets improve to 2-4-1 in their last seven games. Hellebuyck’s shutout was his second of the season.
