Texans QB Watson suffers knee injury

Two people familiar with the situation tell the Associated Press that Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson sustained a season-ending knee injury in practice Thursday.

The rookie suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in one of his knees and will go on the injured reserve. The people spoke on the condition of anonymity because the team hadn’t announced the injury.

The 12th overall pick in this year’s draft was named AFC offensive player of the month after throwing for 1,171 yards with 16 touchdowns and running for 145 yards and another score.

The Texans will start Tom Savage, who was benched in the opener, on Sunday against the Colts.

Waynesburg is PAC wrestling favorite

Waynesburg University was selected as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference preseason favorite to secure its second-straight wrestling title, according to a vote of league coaches, sports information directors and the conference office.

Led by 10th-year head coach Ron Headlee, Waynesburg picked up eight of an available nine first-place votes and 35 total points.

Thielwas second with 22 points, just ahead of Washington & Jefferson with 21 points. Thomas More College finished fourth with 12 points. The Saints fielded varsity a wrestling team for the first time last winter.

Waynesburg will host the conference’s 60th annual wrestling championships Feb. 10.

Meen-Whee takes lead in Las Vegas

Kim Meen-Whee birdied two of his final three holes for a 6-under 65 and a one-stroke lead Friday in the PGA Tour’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

The 25-year-old South Korean player birdied all three par-5 holes at TPC Summerlin, Nos. 13 and 16 on his first nine and No. 9 on his second nine.

John Huh was at 66 with J.J. Spaun, Ryan Blaum and Alex Cejka. Jimmy Stanger also was 5 under with three holes left when play was suspended because of darkness.

Huh birdied four of his last six holes and had only 24 putts.

Billy Horschel was two strokes back at 67 along with Bryson DeChambeau, Jason Kokrak, Daniel Summerhays, Peter Malnati, Kevin Chappell, Kelly Kraft, Patrick Cantlay and Brett Stegmaier.

Washington’s Steve Wheatcroft shot 2-over 73.
