All-PAC soccer

Senior Jason Yobbi, junior Paul Mokrzan and sophomore Junior Mensah earned All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference recognition for the Washington & Jefferson men’s soccer team.

Yobbi earned his second straight All-PAC award after being selected to the First Team, Mokrzan landed on the Second Team for the second year in a row and was placed on the Sportsmanship Team, and Mensah was named an Honorable Mention.

Yobbi anchored the Presidents’ defense, helping the squad to four shutouts in 2017. He also had three goals, two of which came against Bethany in the penultimate game of the regular season, and four assists. He started in every game in 2017. Yobbi was named the PAC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time.

Mokrzan led the offense with five goals, 51 shots, and 26 shots on goal. He also tied for first on the team in points with 12 and for game-winning goals with two.

Mensah started as a defender in all 18 games. On offense, Mensah scored one goal on seven shots. He helped a defense that permitted a 1.33 goals allowed average.

  • Waynesburg was represented by a trio of players.

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior Tyler Sisler, who earned second-team All-PAC in his first year at Waynesburg. He led the team in total points (10) and assists (6) and scored two goals. His half-dozen helpers tied him for first place in the league.

Sophomore Nate Kummer joined Sisler as an honorable mention selection. He tied for first place on the Jackets with four goals and his eight total points were good for second on the team.

Freshman Steven Haines was Waynesburg’s representative on the Sportsmanship Team

  • Seniors Ashton Grimm, Tatiana Ruzzini and Jordan Toohey led a group of seven Washington & Jefferson women’s soccer players selected to the All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference teams.

Senior Josie Madden made second team and senior Allison Rinehimer and junior Nicole Walters were named Honorable Mention. Sophomore Courtney Finney rounded out the six Presidents as she earned a spot on the PAC Sportsmanship Team.

The Presidents concluded the season with a 12-6-1 overall record and a mark of 7-2 in the PAC, including a seven-game winning streak to close their regular season slate, but fell in the conference semifinals to Grove City, 2-1.

  • Waynesburg was represented by a pair of standouts on the squads.

Melanie Byler capped a senior season by making second-team All-PAC. Despite coming back from a season-ending injury in 2016, Byler led Waynesburg in goals (7), assists (3) and total points (17) and was honored as a PAC Player of the Week.

The Salisbury, Pennsylvania, native finished sixth in the league in both total points per game and goals.

She also represented the team on the 2017 PAC Sportsmanship Team.

Senior Sam Nichols earned her second-straight honorable mention selection after tying Byler for first place on the team with three assists. She added a goal to her season’s work for five total points.
