Carlos Carrasco struck out 11 and withstood another scary Minnesota line drive, pitching the Cleveland Indians past the Twins 8-1 Tuesday night.
Francisco Lindor matched a career high with four hits while Jose Ramirez drove in three runs for the AL Central leaders.
Carrasco (16-7) allowed four hits in 7 2/3 innings. He is tied for second in the majors in wins, one behind Luis Severino of the Yankees.
In the fifth, Carrasco was hit in the glove by Ehire Adrianza’s liner. The force of the blow knocked Carrasco to the ground, but the right-hander immediately got to his feet. The ball rolled toward second baseman Jason Kipnis, who had no play at first.
Indians manager Terry Francona and a team trainer went to the mound, and Carrasco signaled he wasn’t injured. The pitcher smiled as the trainer wiped dirt off his left hand and wrist with a towel.
On June 16 at Progressive Field, Carrasco was struck on the right elbow by a line drive from Twins star Joe Mauer. Carrasco sustained a bruise and missed three weeks – he is 8-2 in 11 starts since returning July 6.
Kyle Gibson (7-11) allowed five runs in 5 1/3 innings. Jake Cave hit a solo homer in the ninth.
Baltimore 12, Toronto 5: Josh Rogers won his major league debut, Tim Beckham hit a three-run homer and the Baltimore Orioles rolled over the Toronto Blue Jays 12-5.
Rogers, acquired from the Yankees for closer Zach Britton in July, allowed three runs and seven hits with two strikeouts and a walk over five innings. He was the first left-handed pitcher to start a game for Baltimore this season.
Craig Gentry went 3 for 5 with his first home run and three RBIs for the Orioles, who won consecutive games for the first time this month.
Trey Mancini added a double and a triple, while Adam Jones tied a career high with four hits.

Cards remove interim tag for Shildt: The St. Louis Cardinals have removed the interim tag from Mike Shildt’s title, promoting him to manager after he led the team into postseason contention since taking over for the fired Mike Matheny.
Shildt has guided the Cardinals to a 26-12 record since July 15 and they now hold the top spot in the National League wild card standings. The Cardinals were 47-46 and trailed the Cubs by 7 ½ games when Matheny was fired.
“Over the past 15 years, Mike has been mentored by many great baseball men including George Kissell, Tony La Russa and Mark DeJohn. Now he has an opportunity to share his insights throughout the entire organization,” said Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak.
The 50-year-old Shildt has been with the Cardinals organization since 2004 and has served on the team’s major league coaching staff the past two seasons. He became the 50th manager in franchise history when he was named to the interim position.
Phillies trade for Bautista: The Philadelphia Phillies acquired veteran slugger Jose Bautista from the New York Mets for a player to be named or cash.
Bautista has batted .196 with 11 homers and 42 RBIs for the Braves and Mets this season. The Phillies entered Tuesday night’s game against Washington 3½ games behind first-place Atlanta in the NL East.
A six-time All-Star for Toronto from 2010-15, the 37-year-old Bautista has 342 career homers. The right-handed hitter is expected to come off the bench for the Phillies.
Philadelphia has been active, acquiring infielder Asdrubal Cabrera and two-time All-Star catcher Wilson Ramos last month, then first baseman Justin Bour and lefty reliever Luis Avilan in August.
