Too little, too late for Peters Township
A first-quarter deficit was too much to overcome as Peters Township fell to Mt. Lebanon 44-43 to create a three-way tie atop the Section 3-6A standings.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a 19-10 lead over Peters Township after the first eight minutes, taking a 27-18 halftime lead.
Peters Township (3-1, 10-2) nearly pulled off a comeback but a three-point heave from half court missed at the buzzer.
The Indians were led by Makenna Marisa’s 24 points, while Lillian Young finished with 10 points.
Alyssa Hyland and Jamie Napoleon scored 14 points each for Mt. Lebanon (3-1, 6-7). Haley Sabol also chipped in with 10 points.
West Allegheny 63, South Fayette 34: Make it two teams that went far in last year’s postseason that West Allegheny has knocked off in the past seven days.
The Indians scored at least 12 points in every quarter as they defeated South Fayette 63-34 in a Section 1-5A game.
West Allegheny (4-0, 10-3), which defeated Chartiers Valley last Thursday, was led by Hannah Lindemuth’s 18 points. Patience Ashaolu also had 16 points as the Indians built a 30-19 halftime lead.
Jordyn Caputo scored 11 points for South Fayette (2-1, 6-4).
West Greene 70, Geibel 18: Four players scored in double figures for West Greene as it dominated Geibel 70-18 in a battle for the top spot in Section 2-A.
Paced by leading scorer Madison Lampe, who finished with 17 points, West Greene (4-0, 11-0) took a 42-9 halftime lead.
Kaitlyn Rizor, Elizabeth Brudnock and Savannah Pettit also scored in double digits with 13, 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Geibel (3-1, 5-5) struggled getting any consistent scoring on the Pioneers, failing to score more than five points in each quarter.
California 58, Bentworth 30: Bentworth couldn’t find an answer for Bailey Vig.
The senior guard scored 33 points as California defeated Bentworth 58-30 in a Section 3-AA game.
Vig finished with nine field goals, more than half of the Trojans’ total, three three-pointers and went 6-of-8 from the free-throw line in the winning effort.
Grace Roberts also scored nine points for California (5-1, 8-3).
Bentworth (0-6, 3-8) was paced by a team-high 10 points from Caroline Rice.
Avella 58, Jefferson-Morgan 27: Bess Lengauer and Jordan Rush scored in double figures as Avella wore down and defeated Jefferson-Morgan 58-27 in a Section 2-A game.
The Eagles were trailing after the first quarter but then scored 39 points in the next 16 minutes to pull ahead of Jefferson-Morgan, which only have five players dressed for the game.
Krista McCartney led J-M (1-3, 2-10) with 15 points.
Lengauer scored a team-high 12 points for Avella (2-1, 6-5). Rush finished with 11.
East Allegheny 69, McGuffey 17: Armani Johnson continued pouring in the points as East Allegheny defeated McGuffey 69-17 in a Section 2-AAA game.
Johnson finished with a game-high 33 points as the Wildcats jumped out to a 49-8 lead at halftime over McGuffey (1-3, 3-9).
Amaia Johnson also reached double figures for East Allegheny (5-0, 12-0) with 16 points.
Mapletown 34, Monessen 23: Abby Antill scored 13 points to pace Mapletown to a 34-23 victory over Monessen in a Section 2-A game.
Kelsi Smith added 8 points and 10 rebounds for the Maples (1-2, 4-8).
Monessen (0-4, 1-12) had Madison Telegraphis, Malquala Green and Qitirah Hardison score 6 points apiece.
Chartiers-Houston 61, New Brighton 17: Alexa Williamson scored 38 points and grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds to propel Chartiers-Houston to a 61-17 in a Section 1-AA game.
Jules Vulcano added 10 points for the Bucs (6-0, 9-3), who led 24-3 after one quarter.
Sidney Cook led New Brighton (0-6, 1-11) with 8 points.
South Allegheny 39, Waynesburg 23: A quick start sent South Allegheny past Waynesburg, 39-23, in a Section 2-AAA game.
Alyssa Minerd and Makenzie Duval each scored 9 points for SA (3-2, 9-3), which led 13-3 after one quarter.
Shay Echegaray led Waynesburg (0-4, 1-9), which trailed, 20-11, at halftime.
Greensburg CC 35, Beth-Center 32: Greensburg Central Catholic held Beth-Center to 10 points in the middle two quarters on the way to a 35-32 victory in a Section 3-AA game.
Anna Eisaman scored a game-high 18 points for the Centurions (4-2, 5-6).
Kinlee Whited tossed in 12 points for B-C (4-2, 7-4).
Burgettstown 58, Aliquippa 35: Emily Prasko had a double-double in Burgettstown’s 58-35 rout of Aliquippa in a Section 1-AA game.
Prasko had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Devils (3-3, 5-7). Hannah Abbott added 12 points, and Madison Banaszak 11.
Aliquippa (0-6, 0-11) was paced by Avonna Henry’s 11 points.

Burgettstown 85, Brownsville 83: Burgettstown went on a 15-4 run to start the fourth quarter and rallied for an 85-83 win over Brownsville.
Garrett Dhans scored 12 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter for the Blue Devils (4-1, 9-3), who trailed 57-51 at halftime. Ryan Lounder scored 16 points, Max Shaw 12 and Jacob Shrockman 11
Shandon Marshall’s 39 points paced Brownsville (1-3, 5-7). Nick Seto scored 20 and Phil Pace added 17 points. The two teams combined for nine three-pointers.
Fort Cherry 54, Frazier 40: Ryhan Culberson and Nate Higham combined for 45 points as Fort Cherry dumped Frazier, 54-40, in Section 2-AA game
Culberson scored 27 points and Higham 18 for the Rangers (5-0, 7-5).
Justin Novak tossed in 16 points and JD Celaschi added 12 for Frazier (2-2, 4-6).
Serra 79, Bentworth 43: Four players reached double figures for Serra Catholic in a 79-43 victory over Bentworth in a non-section game
Malik Edmundson led the way with 16 points for serra (10-2). Jim Moon contributed 15 points, Khalil Smith 12 and Joe Gluseik 11.
Bentworth (5-4) was paced by Stephen Harner’s 18 points.
