Donora raises taxes for first time in 11 years
DONORA – Donora Council raised real estate taxes by 1.5 mills as expected Tuesday.
Councilman John Conger said the 2018 budget of $2.3 million passed in a 4-2 vote with councilmen Gilbert Szakal Jr. and Dennis Gutierrez casting the no votes. Cynthia Brice abstained from voting because her husband is the borough’s police superintendent.
Council reopened the budget last month in order to raise taxes, something that hasn’t happened in the borough for 11 consecutive years.
The tax rate of 5.262 mills will result in a $66 increase in real estate taxes for the average property owner.
