Where are they now?

Here is a look at where some of Bethel Park’s Championship Boys of Summer are today:

In 1988, Bethel Park’s outfield featured a sophomore, Brian Schmucker in left with seniors Wade Wilson and Bill Taylor in center and right.

Today, Schmucker is the founder and CEO of RiverNorth, a management, strategic planning and business development firm. The son of Bob and Donna resides in Chicago with his wife, Julie, have two children, Adam and Anna Berlin.

Wilson, who was also a standout in football and played both sports at Princeton University, parlayed his degree into a career as a real estate executive. He is the CEO of Xander Capital Management and resides in New Jersey.

Taylor owns Spyder Learning, an international cyber school corporation based in Upper St. Clair. The son of Bonnie and Bill Taylor resides in Murraysville with his wife, Jennifer, and two children, Liam, 12, and Lucy, 10.

The infield featured: Craig McRoberts at first, Curt White at second, Chris Buzzi at short and Chris Futrick at third and the versatile Mike Mistick and Frank Cararie. All were seniors.

McRoberts is a financial advisor and executive vice president for Heferson-Tilotsen, Inc. The son of Bev and Grant McRoberts resides in Peters Township with his wife, Lori, and their three children, Ella, who is a freshman and a standout golfer like her father, Brady, 13, who excels in lacrosse, and Lia, 9.

White, works in New York City for J.P. Morgan as a municipal bond portfolio manager. The son of Larry White and Jeanne White lives in West Chester with his wife, Heidi, and two children, Griffin, 7, and Cooper, 4. He had three other brothers, Craig, Corey and Clarke, who played baseball for Bethel Park as well as a sister, Carrie, who played softball.

Thanks to “investing wisely” and a successful sales career in retail, fixtures and displays, Buzzi is “semi-retired” and living in Columbus, Ohio. The only player from the 1988 state championship club inducted into Bethel Park’s athletic Hall of Fame (so far), he remains active playing softball. The son of Flo and John Buzzi had two other brothers, Lou and John, that played baseball at Bethel Park.

Futrick works on a management sales team for AZZ, an industrial service company. He lives in Brentwood with his wife, Kim, and their two children, Taylor and Shannon.

A North Strabane resident, Mistick works as a software engineer, writing computer programs for Washington Penn Plastics, while Cararie is a dentist.

Designated hitter Mike Hahn lives in Meadowview, Va. He roomed with McRoberts and Dave Hogle at Penn State University and belonged to the ATO fraternity. He applied himself to his studies and became a veterinarian. He and his wife, Julie, have three athletic children: Anna, 16, who plays soccer, basketball and volleyball, Addie, 14, a ballerina, and Ben, 11, who adds wrestling to his repertoire of soccer and basketball. The son of Joy and Denny Hahn has two brothers, Dave and Mark, who played baseball at Bethel Park, as well as a sister, Jody.

Bethel Park’s mainstays on the mound were Ron Kitchen and Chip Gaddis. Kitchen, who was 12-0 in 1988, played some semi-pro baseball. He resides in Maryland. Gaddis went to Purdue and earned a degree in engineering.
