No limitations

for Luck

Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard says quarterback Andrew Luck will take some extra days off during training camp but will have no limitations when he’s on the field.

Luck is trying to return from a partially torn labrum in his throwing shoulder, which required surgery in January 2017.

After missing all of last season, Luck resumed throwing in public during the team’s mandatory three-day minicamp last month. Since then, Ballard says Luck has continued to progress.

The plan calls for Luck to throw at least four days per week, following his regular season routine.

Luck and his teammates report to camp Wednesday. They will work out at the team’s new camp site, Grand Park Sports Campus, through Aug. 18.

Bastardo suspended

Free agent pitcher Antonio Bastardo has been suspended for the rest of the season under the minor league drug program following a positive test for the steroid Stanozolol, a penalty that follows a 50-game ban five years ago for his involvement with the Biogenesis clinic.

A 32-year-old left-hander, Bastardo agreed in January to a minor league contract with Arizona. He made seven appearances for the Diamondbacks in spring training and then was released. The commissioner’s office said Friday that Bastardo was suspended for 140 games for a second violation of a baseball drug program. The penalty is retroactive to the start of the minor league season.

Bastardo is 27-20 with a 4.01 ERA in 414 relief appearances and five starts in nine seasons for Philadelphia (2009-14), Pittsburgh (2015-17) and the New York Mets (2016). He had a 15.00 ERA in nine games for the Pirates last year.

Fowler out for season opener

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Dante Fowler has been suspended without pay for the season opener against the New York Giants for attacking a man in a parking lot a year ago.

Fowler was arrested last July after confronting a man who made a comment about his driving in a parking lot. Authorities say Fowler exchanged words with the man before hitting him. Police say the man’s glasses were knocked off and Fowler stepped on them before taking a grocery bag from the man and tossing it in a lake.

Fowler pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of battery, criminal mischief and petty theft. He was sentenced in March to a year of probation and 75 hours of community service.

Fowler played for Florida and was the Jaguars’ first-round draft pick in 2015. The NFL said Friday he is eligible to participate in all preseason practices and games.

Trademark

dispute resolved

The Vegas Golden Knights have resolved a trademark dispute with the U.S. Army over the NHL franchise’s name and gold and black colors.

The hockey team said in a statement Thursday that an agreement with the Army allows the team to continue using the “Vegas Golden Knights” and “Golden Knights” while the Army can keep using the “Golden Knights” nickname and variations of it for its parachute exhibition team.

The Las Vegas team first unveiled the name and logo in 2016. The Army later filed a challenge to oppose the team’s trademark, saying its parachute team has been nicknamed the “Golden Knights” since the 1960s.

Las Vegas team owner Bill Foley says he’s pleased with an amicable resolution.

The U.S. Army did not respond to a message seeking comment Friday.
