Monessen’s Henderson to move out of district, state

Former longtime Monessen High School basketball coach Joe Salvino isn’t the only person to leave the program.
Now, the Greyhounds will also be without one of top scorers in the WPIAL from last year as Lyndon Henderson is moving to Michigan for his senior season.
Henderson will live with his brother, former Monessen and Lincoln Park standout Elijah Minnie. He will attend Arbor Preparatory High School in Ypsilanti, Mich.
“This is news to me,” said Dan Bosnic, who was hired to replace Salvino in June. “I’ve heard rumors but actually didn’t know he was transferring.”
Henderson, a guard, was selected to the third team in Class A on the 2017-18 Sports Writers Pennsylvania All-State Boys Basketball teams. He was also named to the Observer-Reporter Boys All-District second team after averaging 21 points and four rebounds.
Monessen won its fifth consecutive section championship last season, a task that will be much more difficult after the departure of Henderson.
“I’m just going to focus on the guys that are there,” Bosnic said. “Obviously, from past years, Lyndon was a good player at Monessen. If he did choose to move to another school, I look forward to working with what we have.”
