High school baseball

Canon-McMillan won a pair of games Sunday in Vero Beach, Fla., defeating Stevenson (Ill.) 14-1 in five innings and Loveland (Ohio) 12-2 in six innings.

The Biog Macs conclude their southern trip with a 3-0 record.

Against Stevenson, ranked among the top 5 teams in Illinois, Canon-McMillan scored 12 runs in the top of the first inning. The Big Macs had 12 hits, including a double and triple by Brandon Kline and a double and two singles byu winning pitcher Ian Hess.

Brandon Rea, Cam Weston and Nick Searfino each doubled for Canon-McMillan.

Hess struck out five and did not issue a walk.

The Big Macs scored six runs over the first three innings against Loveland and ended the game early with a five-run sixth.

Canon-McMillan had 10 hits, including nine singles. Greydon Piechnick’s triple was the lone extra-base hit.

Winning pitcher Corey Didier had two hits for C-M, as did Hess, Weston and Connor Flaherty.

In the NBA

Stephen Curry will not return for the first round of the playoffs next month because of a sprained left knee.

Coach Steve Kerr on Sunday ruled out the two-time MVP for the best-of-seven first round in the Western Conference playoffs. The Warriors are expected to be the No. 2 seed.

An MRI exam Saturday showed a Grade 2 sprain of his medial collateral ligament and the team said Curry would be re-evaluated in three weeks – that would be April 14 and a possible Game 1 of the playoffs for Golden State.

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo returned from an ankle injury to score 25 points, and the Milwaukee Bucks held on in the final few minutes after building a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter for a 106-103 win over the San Antonio Spurs.
  • LeBron James had 37 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, and the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Brooklyn Nets 121-114 for their fifth straight victory.

James kept up his latest sensational stretch by going 14 for 19 from the floor. He reached 2,000 points in a season for the 10th time, joining Karl Malone and Michael Jordan as the only players in NBA history to do that.

  • Terry Rozier scored a season-high 33 points and nearly matched the Celtics’ franchise record for 3-pointers, Jaylen Brown made consecutive buckets to break open a close game in the fourth quarter, and Boston held on to beat the Sacramento Kings 104-93.

Pryor signs with Jets

Terrelle Pryor is hoping for a Big-Apple bounce-back with the Jets.

The former Washington wide receiver signed with New York after one disappointing season with the Redskins.

The Jets announced the signing Sunday. Terms of the deal, which were agreed to Thursday night, were not immediately known.

Pryor had free agent visits with both New York and Seattle, and also had interest from Cleveland, before he agreed to sign with the Jets.

Rangers coach injured

Texas Rangers minor league coach Howard Johnson has been released from a hospital with several fractures in his cheekbone after being hit by a line drive while in the dugout.

The Rangers said Sunday that Johnson’s eye function was good and that it didn’t appear he would need surgery. The former big league slugger will rest for a week in Arizona and then be re-examined.

Johnson was injured Saturday during the spring training game between Texas and Cleveland. The liner by Erik Gonzalez of the Indians hit Johnson below the left eye, and play was stopped for about 10 minutes while medical personnel treated him.

}Johnson is the hitting coach at Triple-A Round Rock.
