Wild Things game postponed

The Wild Things’ game Wednesday night against the Gateway Grizzlies was postponed because of rain and has been rescheduled as part of doubleheader tonight. The first game will start at 5:35 p.m. at Wild Things Park.

Fans who had tickets for Wednesday’s game can use their stubs as a voucher for a ticket to any game during the 2018 season.

Night kickoff for Pitt-Penn State

One of college football’s most historic rivalries will be showcased in primetime when Pitt and Penn State meet at Heinz Field Sept. 8. The game will be televised on ABC at 8 p.m.

This will be the first night kickoff for a Pitt-Penn State game in 31 years and is the last scheduled meeting in Pittsburgh between the in-state rivals. The current four-game agreement will conclude at Penn State in 2019.

The teams have met 98 times dating back to 1893. Penn State leads the series, 51-43-4.

National champion Alabama will face Louisville in ABC’s first Saturday Night Football game, and Miami plays LSU Sunday night of the season-opening weekend.

ESPN announced Wednesday its schedule for the first three weeks of Saturday night games. The Crimson Tide meets Louisville in Orlando, Florida, at 8 p.m. Sept. 1. The next day Miami and LSU square off at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, at 7:30 p.m. It will be the third straight season ABC airs a Sunday night game on Labor Day weekend, when college football doesn’t compete against the NFL.

The next weekend, Penn State plays Pitt, and Ohio State faces TCU at Arlington, Texas, the following Saturday, Sept. 15.

Kendra wins

ECAC pole vault

Waynesburg University senior Mitch Kendra, a Washington native and Trinity graduate, capped a terrifice final collegiate season by winning the pole vault competition Wednesday at the ECAC Division III Track & Field Championships at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.

Kendra, the Presidents’ Athletic Conference champion in the event, cleared 14-3 to win the ECAC title. Earlier this season, Kendra set a personal best by clearing 15-0 3/4 at a meet hosted by Mount Union.

Pony baseball

Winning pitcher Jack Sacco hit three doubles, drove in three runs and struck out 11 as Donora-Monessen defeated Charleroi 14-2 in a five-inning Mon Valley Pony League game Wednesday at City Park in Monessen.

Sacco gave up only two hits and one walk in four innings. Braedon DuBreucq had a double and three RBI for Donora-Monessen (1-1), Jacob Petrusky drove in three runs and Logan Anderson doubled.

Ethan Hadsell and Tyler Porter each hit a double for Charleroi (0-4).
