OP-ED: To be thankful for

2 min read

The very fact that you are reading these words is proof that you will have much to be thankful for Thursday.

Not because the words are mine, but because you have eyes to see a printed page, and eyes to let into your mind all the things pasted and placed on this spaceship of ours to make the journey more enjoyable.

Because you have at least one hand – to touch a face, to move to music, to hold a hammer, to plant a seed – to lead.

Because you have a mind to understand with, and, since you are reading when you don’t have to, that soul of the brain that gives it life: curiosity.

This reading also proves that you have at least a dime to blow after bills and taxes, and that’s worth a prayer or two any day.

Each of these possessions is significant by itself, but when you gather them into a ball and roll them around your intellect for a moment, they become a thing that’s nothing less than profound.

It’s called living.

Though sometimes it doesn’t seem like much. Those times when you feel like finding a nice dark corner and introducing your forehead to a very hard wall. Those times when you feel like sticking your thumb in your mouth and hiding under the bedcovers for a year or two, those times.

But between agonies, so many ecstasies.

So many things to be thankful for.
