Wild Things release 2019 schedule

The Wild Things released their 2019 schedule Monday, and for the fourth consecutive year they will open the season on the road. Washington will begin its 18th Frontier League season May 9 at defending West Division champion River City.

After playing four games at River City and three at Schaumburg to begin the year, the Wild Things will play their home opener May 17 against the Lake Erie Crushers.

After recently losing teams in Traverse City and Normal, the Frontier League has been reduced to a 10-team league with two five-team divisions. Washington remains in the East along with Lake Erie, Schaumburg, Windy City and defending champion Joliet.

The Wild Things have one home doubleheader scheduled for 2019, May 23 against Florence. Two 11:05 a.m. games are on the schedule: May 22 against Florence and June 26 against Lake Erie.

Ex-WVU player faces molestation charge

Police said a former West Virginia football player has been charged in Georgia with aggravated child molestation.

Authorities said Justin Crawford was arrested after a 12-year-old girl told her mother Crawford had sex with her Saturday in his Columbus home.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reported Detective Mark Scruggs testified Crawford’s wife saw her husband standing over the girl Saturday morning, then told the girl’s mother.

Scruggs saidCrawford first denied having sex, then later said it was the girl’s idea.

Crawford played two seasons for West Virginia and signed this year as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Falcons before being released.

Girls soccer

Jocleyn Timlin and Paige Marshalek combined for five goals and goalkepper Cande Kossel posted her ninth shutout of the season as Bentworth defeated Beth-Center 6-0 Monday in a matchup of playoff-bound teams from Section 2-A.

Section champion Bentworth (12-0, 14-1) finished league play undefeated and outscored their opponents by a whopping 94-8 margin.

Timlin led the way against Beth-Center (7-4, 8-6) by scoring three goals, including one in the game’s opening minute. Marshalek followed with two tallies and Caroline Rice had the other goal.

  • Alexandra Ferrella scored the lone goal of the match at 14:07 of the second half and Chartiers Valley blanked host South Fayette 1-0 in Section 4-AAA.

South Fayette falls to 6-5-1 in the section and 9-5-1 overall. CV ends at 3-8-1 and 6-9-1.

  • Kasey Scears recorded six saves as Chartiers-Houston shut out McGuffey in a Section 2-A match.

Alyssa Daugherty, Ashley Horvath, McKenzie Price and Lexie Dzadovsky each had a goal for the Bucs (9-3, 10-8). McGuffey fell to 3-9 and 3-10.

Boys soccer

Cullin Woytovich had a hat trick to help Charleroi down Beth-Center, 6-0, in Section 3-AA.

Randy Carson had two goals and Nick Laskey one for the Cougars (12-0, 15-0).

B-C fell to 6-6 and 8-10.

  • Elijah Cincinnati scored three times and added two assists as Trinity stopped Washington, 11-2, in a nonsection match.

Austin Aber and Italo Deluca each scored twice for the Hillers (10-6). Aber compiled four assists. Logan Errett, Dan Boardley, Ryan Hornickle and Jonah Spencer each scored a goal.

Wash High fell to 0-14-1.

  • Despite a goal by Bentworth’s Brian Hustava on a penalty kick, Bishop Canevin defeated the Bearcats, 4-1.

Bentworth goalkeeper Jaxon Selvoski made 11 saves. The Bearcats finished the season with a 3-9 record.

Field hockey

Peters Township defeated Norwin 1-0 Monday night in field hockey action. Maura Farinelli had the goal.
