High school football
A 10-yard pass from Bailey Lincoski to Drake Zellie in overtime gave Beth-Center a 26-20 win over Imani Christian in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon.
The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the Bulldogs, who stopped Imani on four straight downs to begin the overtime session.
Dominic Fundy led Beth-Center (6-3) with 118 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries. He scored on runs of five and three yards. Colby Kuhns had 11 carries for 103 yards.
Imani (6-3) carved the Bulldogs’ defense with several long passing touchdowns. Quarterback Israel Reed’s threw a pair of 50-yard TDs and found Dashaun Wright for an 80-yard score.
Beth-Center hosts Frazier for the final playoff spot in the Interstate Conference Friday.
Men’s soccer
Luis Partida scored with less than nine minutes left in regulation to give Bloomsburg a 1-0 victory over California in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match.
Partida scored off an outlet pass from teammate Lael Cherry, improving the Huskies’ record to 4-6 in conference play and 7-9 overall.
California, which falls to 1-8-1 in the PSAC and 2-8-4 overall, couldn’t find the back of the net despite multiple opportunities in the first half.
- Nick Cimini scored a pair of goals to lead Westminster to a 4-2 victory over Washington & Jefferson in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference match.
Joseph Feola and Jonathan Youse each found the back of the net for W&J (3-2, 5-8-1), but the Presidents failed to keep up with the high-scoring attack of the Titans, who scored four of the first five goals of the game.
Women’s soccer
Julie Halula scored the game-winning goal in overtime as Washington & Jefferson College handed Westminster its first PAC loss of the season, 1-0, in overtime.
Halula scored in the 98th minute to bring the Presidents, who are 4-2 in the PAC and 7-7-2 overall, to a tie for third place in the conference standings. Brianna Floryshak earned the assist.
Westminster falls to 6-1 in the conference and 13-4 overall.
Women’s field hockey
Washington & Jefferson College continued its dominance with its 11th shutout of the season, defeating Houghton, 2-0, in Empire 8 Conference action.
Alana Boyd and Rachel Fromm scored for the Presidents, who improve to 7-0 in the conference and 14-0 overall.
A strong defensive effort from 18th-ranked W&J didn’t allow goalie Rena Israel to see a shot as she earned her 12th victory.
Bengals’ Burfict fined $112K
The NFL has been fined Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict $112,000 for multiple unnecessary roughness penalties in Cincinnati’s loss to Pittsburgh last Sunday.
The third-quarter plays involved Steelers’ wide receiver Antonio Brown and running back James Conner. Burfict, who has been fined 11 times for more than $315,000 during his seven-year NFL career, was suspended for four games to begin this season for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancers.
Girls soccer
Three local teams fell in the opening round of the WPIAL Class A girls soccer playoffs. Springdale upended Chartiers-Houston, 5-0, Bishop Canevin defeated Charleroi, 7-0, and Our Lady of Sacred Heart shutout Beth-Center, 6-0. Match details were not reported to the Observer-Reporter by press time.
