High school football
Imani Christian scored 32 points in the second quarter to shut out Chartiers-Houston, 54-0, in a non-conference game and earn the final wild-card spot in Class A based on tiebreaker points.
Imani quarterback Israel Reed completed 13 of 18 passes for 349 yards and five touchdowns. He threw touchdowns of 60, 42, 70 and 82 yards.
Dashaun Wright had four receptions for 119 yards and two scores for the Saints, who improve to 7-3 overall.
Chartiers-Houston ends its season at 3-7.
In girls soccer
A goal from Anna Spraule was enough to lift second-seeded Oakland Catholic over 14th-seeded South Fayette, 1-0, in a WPIAL Class 3A semifinal match.
Spraule scored at the 27:01 mark in the first half, and Oakland Catholic (17-1) recorded another shutout to advance to the finals. It has shut out opponents in all three of its playoff matches.
South Fayette (11-7-1) advanced to the semifinals after knocking off Belle Vernon and West Allegheny in the first round and quarterfinals, respectively. The Lions will play Hampton in a consolation match Tuesday at a site and time to be determined for the final qualifying spot in the PIAA tournament.
W&J, Waynesburg win PAC XC titles
The Washington & Jefferson men’s cross country team won its first Presidents’ Athletic Conference team title at the 2018 PAC Cross Country Championships at Greene County Airport.
Harley Moyer won his second straight individual title to lead the Presidents, crossing the soggy 8,000-meter course in 26:07.85. He beat the field by more than 40 seconds.
In the women’s race, five runners for Waynesburg finished in the top 14 as the Yellow Jackets captured their third consecutive PAC championship.
Aubrey Wingeart led Waynesburg finished third with a time of 24:40.93.
Women’s soccer
Brianna Floryshak scored the only goal in the 58th minute as Washington & Jefferson defeated Waynesburg, 1-0, in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference match.
Waynesburg (3-5, 7-7-2) goalkeeper Courtney Syfert made 10 saves.
The win moves Washington & Jefferson to 6-2 in the conference and 9-7-2 overall.
Men’s soccer
Paul Mokrzan scored a pair of goals as Washington & Jefferson shut out Waynesburg, 3-0, in a PAC match.
Mokrzan gave the Presidents, who improve to 4-3 in conference and 6-9-1 overall, a lead 10 minutes into the game from 15 yards out. He scored his second goal later in the first half on a free kick in the 32nd minute.
The win clinches the fourth seed in the conference tournament for the Presidents.
Waynesburg falls to 2-4-1 in conference and 5-10-1 overall.
- A pair of second-half goals lifted Lock Haven over California, 2-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match.
Steven Schankweiler broke a scoreless tie in the 62nd minute to give Lock Haven (4-5-2, 7-7-3) a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, Reggie Holt doubled the lead for the Bald Eagles.
California finishes the season 1-9-1 in conference and 3-9-4 overall.
Field hockey
Alana Boyd scored her first career hat trick as the Washington & Jefferson women’s field hockey team defeated Elmira, 7-0, in an Empire 8 Conference match.
The three goals for Boyd gives her 50 career points for the Presidents, who improve to 15-1 overall and 8-0 in conference play. They will host and be the top seed at next week’s conference tournament.
Claire Shaak had three assists. Rachel Buyan and Reghan Dunn each had a goal and an assist for W&J.
