Boys soccer

Gavin Benson had a hat trick as Waynesburg defeated Beth-Center, 4-0, in a Section 3-AA match.

Jack Church scored the other goal for Waynesburg (4-1, 6-2). Chase Henkins stopped five shots in goal.

Beth-Center falls to 3-3 in section and 4-4 overall.

  • Cam Frolo broke a tied game with one minute left as Monessen defeated Bentworth, 4-2, in a Section 4-A match.

Frolo joined teammate Morgan Madison with a pair of goals for the Greyhounds, who improve to 2-1-1 in the section and 3-1-2 overall.

Brian Hustava and Leyton Hustava scored for Bentworth (1-5, 1-7).

  • Chad Eldridge scored three goals to lead South Fayette over West Mifflin, 7-0, in a Section 4-AAA match.

Gavin Eldridge, Gabe Nova, Cole Lutz and Scott Zyra also scored for South Fayette (3-2, 4-4).

West Mifflin falls to 2-3 in the section and 3-6 overall.

  • Nick Laskey led the way for high-scoring Charleroi as the Cougars dominated Uniontown, 13-2, in a non-section match.

Laskey scored a game-high four goals, Cullin Woytovich had a hat trick and Leo Iacovangelo and Eben McIntyre each scored twice for Charleroi (5-0, 6-0).

The Cougars have scored 58 goals this season.

  • Led by all-time leading scorer Markello Apodiakos, Belle Vernon scored three second-half goals to hand Greensburg Salem a 3-1 loss in Section 3-AAA.

Apodiakos scored two goals in the second half. Aaron Brown scored the other goal for Belle Vernon (4-1-1, 7-1-1).

Greensburg Salem (4-1, 5-1) had a 1-0 lead at the half.

Girls soccer

Morgan Einodshofer scored a pair of goals as Belle Vernon defeated Greensburg Salem, 4-0, in a battle of teams atop Section 2-AAA.

Izzy Laurita and Autumn Forte also scored for Belle Vernon (3-0, 4-1). Grace Henderson made 10 saves for the Leopards.

Girls field hockey

Nica Schratz scored the only goal of the game as Peters Township defeated North Allegheny, 1-0.

Women’s soccer

Caitlin Drahushak scored with 23 seconds remaining to lift Washington & Jefferson College over Franciscan, 1-0.

Canon-McMillan graduate Lexey Finney had the assist on the game-winning goal, improving the Presidents record to 2-3-1.

Getz, Wolf nationally recognized

Washington & Jefferson College linebacker Nick Getz and wide receiver Andrew Wolf were named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after a 36-14 win over Carnegie Mellon.

Getz, a junior linebacker, made 13 tackles (eight solo), including three tackles for loss.

Wolf, a sophomore wide receiver, turned in his third 100-yard game in three weeks. He finished with five catches for 186 yards and three touchdowns. Wolf leads all of Division III with 515 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns.

Belko honored

California University’s Alicia Belko was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week after a top-three finish at the Buffalo Stampede Invitational Friday.

Belko posed a time of 21:54.3 in the race, which featured runners from six NCAA Division I programs, to finish in third place.

Women’s field hockey

Gabby Karr scored the only goal for Washington & Jefferson as it defeated Denison, 1-0, in a nonconference game.

Goalie Rena Israel saved both shots she faced as W&J improved to 6-0.
