Boys soccer
Chase Henkins went from goalkeeper to attacker for Waynesburg, scoring a pair of goals in 9-0 win for the Raiders over Yough in a Section 3-AA match.
Henkins was removed from the net in the middle of the first half to be the only player with a pair of goals.
Waynesburg improves to 6-1 in the section and 8-2 overall.
- Diren Diswa scored on a penalty kick in the second half to lift Brentwood over Chartiers-Houston, 1-0, in a Section 4-A match.
Diswa’s goal was the only surrendered by C-H (2-4-1, 2-5-2) keeper Wilbert Cruz, who made 10 saves to keep the Bucs competitive.
- Leyton Hustava had a pair of goals and an assist as Bentworth defeated visiting California, 4-1, in a Section 4-A match.
It was the second consecutive victory for the Bearcats, who were previously on a five-game losing streak.
Brian Hustava and Austin Marshalek also scored for Bentworth (2-5, 3-7). Jaxon Selvoski made five saves.
- Nick Laskey scored twice to help push Charleroi past Southmoreland, 5-1, in Section 3-AA.
Cullen Woytovich had a goal and assist and J.D. Flemming and Eben McIntyre each had a goal for the Cougars (7-0, 8-0). Southmoreland fell to 4-3 and 4-4.
- Morgan Madison scored less than 2 minutes into overtime on an assist from Cameron Frolo to give Monessen a 1-0 victory over previous Section 4-A leader Bishop Canevin.
Goalkeeper Natahan Lynch recorded his fourth shutout this season. Monessen won its fourth consecutive game and is 5-1-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the section.
Girls soccer
Rhea Kijowski and Kylie Sinn scored for Waynesburg in a 2-0 win over Belle Vernon in a non-section match.
It was the Raiders fourth consecutive victory, and ended a five-game winning streak for Belle Vernon (5-0, 6-2).
McKenzie Booth earned a three-save shutout for Waynesburg (4-1, 6-2).
- Rachel Weis paced South Fayette with two goals as the Lions defeated Thomas Jefferson, 4-3, in a non-section match.
Helina Van Bibber and Annalisa Mariano also scored for South Fayette (3-2, 6-2).
- Emily Clopp had a hat trick to lead Canon-McMillan to an 8-0 victory over Ringgold in a nonsection match.
Annabel Thomas, Maddy Joyce, Leah Godfrey, Libby Timko and Katey Foley each had a goal for C-M (5-2-1). Ashley Barzd stopped 10 shots for the Big Macs.
Ringgold fell to 3-6.
- Sydney Caterino scored three goals to pace Monessen to a 4-2 win over McGuffey in a Section 2-A match.
Kinsey Wilson had the other goal for the Greyhounds (1-3, 1-4).
McGuffey is 1-3 and 1-4.
H.S. Football
South Fayette put the finishing touches on a victory over Hopewell, 48-0, today, in a nonconference game. The second half of the game was played Saturday after weather suspended it Friday night. No further information was available.
College soccer
The Washington & Jefferson men’s soccer team fell in to Marietta, 4-0, to bring an end to the Presidents’ season-long four-game homestand Saturday.
The high-powered Pioneers opened the game’s scoring early, just 31 seconds into the bout to go ahead 1-0. Three more second-half scores sealed the win for Marietta. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 5-3-0 on the season, while W&J falls to 2-4-1.
Water polo
The Washington & Jefferson men’s water polo team was tied 10-10 with Mercyhurst heading into the fourth quarter of its night bout on Friday, but fell just short in a 12-11 setback on Senior Day.
Will Kitsch led the way for the Presidents with five goals and an assist in the close contest.
Field hockey
The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team extended its record to 7-0 after a 3-0 victory over the Nazareth College Golden Flyers.
W&J outshot Nazareth, 46-1, including 24 taken in the first half by the Presidents, followed by another 22 in the second.
