High school softball roundup: Poland has grand time in Trinity victory

Trinity 16, Western Beaver 0: Kylie Poland went 2-for-2 and drove in six runs, winning pitcher Emma Morgan threw a three-inning no-hitter and belted a home run and Trinity rolled to a 16-0 victory over visiting Western Beaver in Class 5A Section 3.

The win keep Trinity (5-1, 8-2) alone in first place in the section. The Hillers were in a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second against Western Beaver (0-7, 0-10) before erupting for 16 runs in two innings.

Poland led the way by hitting a grand slam and a triple. Bailey Bell and Regan Miller each contributed a double.

Morgan got five of the nine outs on strikeouts. She issued one walk.

West Greene 20, California 2: West Greene improved to 8-3 overall, and moved to 5-0 in Section 2-A with a 20-2, 3-inning win over California at home.

McKenna Lampe, Kaitlyn Rizor and Brianna Goodwin each had doubles for West Greene. Madison Lampe and Kaitlyn Rizor each had 2 hits apiece, and Rizor scored 3 runs.

McKenna Lampe, Madison Lampe, Katie Lampe, Brianna Amos, and Jersey Wise scored twice each.

Marlee Renner took the loss for Cal (1-5, 1-8), but had a hit and scored both their runs.

Chartiers-Houston 15, Charleroi 0: Bella Hess went 4-for-4 with two doubles and scored four runs, and two Chartiers-Houston pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout as the Bucs won at Charleroi 15-0 in a four-inning Class 2A Section 3 game.

Nicolette Kloes was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI for the Bucs (6-1, 10-2). Kasey Scears smacked a triple, and Lauren Lober and Madyson Smith each had a double.

Ella Brookman and Kloes shared the pitching for C-H as Charleroi dropped to 2-5, 4-5.

Carmichaels 13, McGuffey 0: Carmichaels scored eight runs in the top of the first inning and Kylie Sinn threw a shutout as the Mikes cruised to a 13-0 win over host McGuffey in Class 2A Section 3.

Carmichaels (6-2, 8-3) unleashed a 13-hit attack that included only one for extra bases, a double by Emily Menhart. Emily Conklin drove in three runs with three singles. Every Mikes starter had at least one hit.

Sinn struck out 10 and did not walk a batter. A single by Shelby Dobrzynski was the only hit for McGuffey (1-4, 1-5).

Burgettstown 11, Carlynton 0: Madisonn Monaghan drove in four runs and Aubrey Krivak tossed a four-hit shutout in Burgettstown’s 11-0 victory over Carlynton in a Section 1-AA game.

Bri Krynak went 2-for-3 with three RBI for the Blue Devils (4-3, 4-6). Krivak walked one and struck out seven.

Carlynton is 1-6 in the section.

Canon-McMillan 10, Mt. Lebanon 3: Canon-McMillanscored all its runs in a 10-3 win over Mt. Lebanon in two innings of this Section 1 game in Class 6A.

The Big Macs (5-3, 6-4) scored seven times in the third and added three more in the seventh.

Seven batters had at least one RBI and nine had at least one RBI for C-M. Grace Higgins drove in two on sacrifice flies and Hailey Freeman went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Winning pitcher Brooke Perri struck out fiive in 5 1/3 innings. Olivia Ulam doubled twice.

Laurie Kubancek hit a solo home run for Mt. Lebanon (3-6, 3-6).

Mapletown 7, Avella 4: Mapletown forged a five-run lead before holding off host Avella 7-4 in Section 2-A.

Macee Cree threw a complete game and struck out eight for Mapletown (3-1, 6-1). Hannah Dusenberry, Taylor Dusenberry and Hannah Hartley each had a double for the Maples.

Julia Bower doubled and drove in three runs for Avella (0-4, 0-6), which scored four times in the fifth inning to close to within 5-4.

West Mifflin 4, Belle Vernon 2: Isabella Farmer and Casey Bornak each drove in two runs in the first inning and that was enough as Emily Buchleitner fired a three-hitter as West Mifflin edged visiting Belle Vernon 4-2 in Class 4A Section 2.

All the scoring in the game was done in the first inning as Belle Vernon (3-4, 5-7) took a 2-0 lead on a home run by Sophia Godzak.

West Mifflin (5-2, 10-2) answered with a four-run bottom fo the first and Buchleitner, who walked four and struck out one, was able to pitch shutout ball the rest of the way, finishing with a three-hitter.

Frazier 11, Bentworth 0: Frazier pitcher Logan Hartman fired a three-hit shutout and hit one of Frazier’s three home runs as the Commodores defeated visiting Bentworth 11-0 in five-inning game in Class 2A Section 3 game.

Hartman struck out 11 and did not walk a batter as Frazier (7-1, 9-1) remained in first place in the section, a half-game ahead of Chartiers-Houston. Hartman drove in three runs and homered. Kathryn Barch and Rylee Evans also hit home runs. Barch had three RBI.

Zalie Skolyak doubled for Bentworth (2-4, 5-7).
