GIRLS
Beth-Center 45, McGuffey 31: Elizabeth Trump and Anna Sloan each scored 10 points as Beth-Center built its lead in the second quarter to defeat McGuffey, 45-31, in Class 3A Section 2.
Beth-Center (8-5, 12-8), which already clinched a playoff berth, outscored the Highlanders 16-3 in the second quarter to lead 24-11 at halftime.
Abby Donnelly scored 10 points for McGuffey (5-8, 8-11).
BOYS
Jeannette 39, Chartiers-Houston 33: Taking a one-point lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Chartiers-Houston couldn’t hold on down the stretch as it lost to Class 2A Section 2 foe Jeannette, 39-33.
The Bucs, who fell to 5-6 in the section and 10-10 overall, can still clinch a playoff berth with a victory over Carmichaels Friday night. The opening tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Jeannette (8-3, 12-9) went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to retake the lead and pull away in the final minutes. Marcus Barnes led the Jayhawks with 12 points, the only player for either team to score in double figures.
Evan Simpson led Chartiers-Houston with eight points.
