GIRLS
Chartiers-Houston 46, Bentworth 27: Leading by one point entering the fourth quarter, Chartiers-Houston outscored Bentworth 18-2 in the final eight minutes to defeat the Bearcats, 46-27, and clinch a playoff berth in Class 2A Section 3.
The 18-point fourth quarter ended an up-and-down offensive day for the Bucs. They scored 11 combined points in the first and third quarters but balanced out their scoring with 33 total points in the second and fourth quarters.
Zameriah Edwards led the offensive effort for Chartiers-Houston (6-5, 8-12) with 20 points. Dominique Mortimer also had a solid game with 15 points.
Katie Babirad scored 10 points for Bentworth (0-11, 1-19).
Belle Vernon 64, Elizabeth Forward 52: Rachel Wobrak and Lindsay Steeber combined for 43 points and seven three-pointers as Belle Vernon went on the road and upended first-place Elizabeth Forward, 64-52, in Class 4A Section 3.
Wobrak scored a game-high 23 points as Belle Vernon (10-4, 14-8) its playoff résumé by pulling away in the fourth quarter. The Leopards outscored Elizabeth Forward (12-2, 14-6) by 10 points, 24-14, in the final eight minutes. Lindsay Steeber finished with 20 points, while Grace Henderson had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Brianna Spirnak led the Warriors with 12 points.
Waynesburg 46, Brownsville 43: Trailing by eight points at halftime, Waynesburg scored 31-second half points for a comeback victory over Class 3A Section 2 foe Brownsville, 46-43.
The Raiders, who still trailed 34-30 entering the fourth quarter, outscored the Falcons 16-9 in the final eight minutes for the victory.
CP Miller led the comeback for Waynesburg (2-12, 7-15) with a game-high 16 points. Julianna Fowler scored 10.
Brownsville (4-9, 10-10) scored 15 points and Emma Seto added 10.
Thomas Jefferson 72, Trinity 41: Thomas Jefferson used a quick start to put away Trinity early, 72-41, in a Class 5A Section 1 game.
The Jaguars scored 26 points in the first quarter and 18 in the second to lead 44-16 at halftime.
Jenna Clark led Thomas Jefferson (11-3, 15-6) with 28 points. Alyssa DeAngelo scored 23 points and Graci Fairman chipped in 10.
Courtney Dahlquist and Kaylin Venick were in double figures for Trinity (8-6, 10-11) with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
West Greene 57, Avella 37: For two-and-a-half quarters Avella went toe-to-toe with West Greene. The Pioneers were too much down the final stretch in a 57-37 victory in Class A Section 2.
Avella (9-3, 15-5) led 21-19 at halftime but surrendered the lead midway through the third quarter.
Jordan Rush scored 10 points for the Eagles.
Leading the second-half surge for West Greene (12-0, 20-2) was Madison Lampe with 17 points and Kaitlyn Rizor with 14.
Frazier 52, Carmichaels 19: Frazier didn’t allow a point in the first quarter and the Commodores took full command to trounce Carmichaels, 52-19, in a Class 2A Section 3 game.
Frazier (10-2, 14-7) led 23-0 after the first quarter and 35-7 at halftime.
Ashley Moger led the Commordores with 15 points. Kaelyn Shaporka scored 13 and Sierra Twigg added 12.
Emily Menhart was the lone double-digit scorer for Carmichaels (1-10, 5-16) with 10 points.
BOYS
Belle Vernon 77, California 72: Three players scored at least 20 points as Belle Vernon found its offense in the second half to defeat California in a non-section game, 77-72.
Belle Vernon (8-14) scored 24 points in both the third and fourth quarters, breaking a 29-29 tie at halftime.
Cam Nusser led the Leopards with 25 points, including six three-pointers. Mitch Pohlot scored 21 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. Larry Callaway also scored 21 points.
California (11-8), which has lost five consecutive games, was paced by Malik Ramsey’s 23 points. Cochise Ryan also added 17.
Hundred, W.Va. 63, Mapletown 41: Travis McCoy scored a game-high 27 points as Hundred, W.Va., crossed the state line to defeat Mapletown 63-41.
Hundred started fast, outscoring the Maples 18-4 in the first quarter, to lead throughout the entirety. Cody Sides scored 15 points and Logan Norris added 11 for Hundred.
Chuck Lash paced Mapletown (1-20) with 13 points. Ryan Tuttle scored 12 points and Matt Atwood had nine.
Geibel Catholic 79, Jefferson-Morgan 65: Jefferson-Morgan could never recover from the first quarter as the Rockets fell to Geibel Catholic, 79-65, in a Class A Section 2 game.
Geibel (7-5, 11-10) opened the game by outscoring the Rockets 27-10 in the first quarter, which began a night of balanced scoring for the Gators. Enzo Fetsko scored 23 points, Cole Kendall finished with 22 and Ryan Anderson had 21.
Tahj Jacobs led Jefferson-Morgan (3-8, 5-16) with 22 points. Devin Stoneking and Elijah Saeson scored 17 and 12 points, respectively.
