Wild Things lose rain-shortened game
SAUGET, Ill. — Gateway scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and went on to a 9-3 victory over the Wild Things in a rain-shortened game Saturday night.
The game was called in the bottom of the fifth inning during a rain delay.
Washington was trying to win consecutive games for the first time all season but fell behind 4-1 in the second inning. The Grizzlies then broke the game open in the fourth when it knocked out Wild Things starter Josh Lapiana (0-1). The Chartiers Valley graduate was making his first professional start and gave up 10 hits and eight runs in three-plus innings.
Gateway pitcher Dominic Topoozian (2-0) beat the Wild Things for the second time in less than a week. He gave up a two-run homer to Saige Jenco in the fifth inning.
