Barrett earns

PSAC awards

California University women’s basketball player Seairra Barrett became the first player in program history to sweep a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference postseason awards.

Barrett was selected the PSAC West Athlete of the Year and the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year Thursday.

A three-year starter, Barrett is averaging 21.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per game for the Vulcans, who play in the PSAC semifinals at Kutztown Saturday (3 p.m.).

Barrett currently is sixth in school history with 1,881 points. She is only the fourth player in California history with more than 1,000 rebounds in a career.

Pegram named to

all-conference team

California University sophomore guard Brent Pegram was named to the All-PSAC West second team.

Pegram, a sophomore, scored 18.5 points per game this season for the Vulcans. He had 10 games with at least 20 points.

Pegram is the first California men’s basketball player to be named to an all-conference team since Richard Smith in 2014-15.

for 20th

Starting on the back nine, Rohanna had four birdies and made the turn at 3 under. She had three bogeys and another birdie on the front and in a tie for 20th place.

Broncos’ Keenum

to be traded

A person with knowledge of the deal tells the Associated Press that the Denver Broncos have agreed to trade quarterback Case Keenum to the Washington Redskins.

Speaking on condition of anonymity because the deal cannot be announced until the start of the new league year March 13, the person confirmed that the teams will also swap 2020 draft picks, with Denver receiving a sixth-rounder and Washington a seventh-rounder.

The parameters of the pending deal include a reworking of Keenum’s contract, with the Broncos paying him a $500,000 restructuring bonus and picking up half of the $7 million he was guaranteed in 2019. The Redskins will pay him the other $3.5 million.

For the second consecutive offseason, the Redskins opted to trade for a quarterback. Keenum enters the equation to try to replace 2018 addition Alex Smith, who broke his right tibia and fibula in November and is expected to miss the entire 2019 season.

Keenum is on the move just one year after parlaying his best season, one in which he led the Vikings to the NFC championship game, into a two-year deal with Denver worth $36 million with $25 million in guarantees.

Boeheim not charged

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim will not be charged in last month’s fatal highway accident and the case has been closed.

Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said Thursday that Boeheim was “not reckless.” He says that after reviewing the police accident report he decided to exercise his discretion in declining to file charges.

According to the report, Boeheim was driving 66 mph five seconds before impact and about 54 mph at impact.

The disabled car on the dark highway was going 67 mph when it skidded out.

The report concluded that speed was not a contributing factor to the accident. There was no evidence that drugs or alcohol played a role.

Boeheim accidentally killed 51-year-old Jorge Jimenez at 11:20 p.m. on Feb. 20 while trying to avoid the disabled car. Jimenez had exited the car and was standing near the guardrail.
