High school softball

Waynesburg opened its season Friday in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., with a pair of two-run victories.

The Raiders started with a 6-4 win in nine innings over Tallmadge, Ohio. The Raiders scored two runs in the top of the ninth to win the game. In the second game, Waynesburg scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to come from behind and beat Granville, Ohio, 5-3.

Sophomore Meghan Braun was the winning pitcher in each game. She walked only two batters over 16 innings.

Against Tallmadge, Waynesburg won in the international tiebreaker format. The Raiders started the ninth with a runner on second base and scored on a single and wild pitch. The final run crossed the plate on a groundout.

Waynesburg trailed 3-2 entering the bottom of the sixth against Granville. The Raiders’ first two runs came on a home run by Rachel Elsenheimer, who had a double against Tallmadge.

Erin Fitch, who was 3-for-3 with two runs, singled to start the sixth and Elsenheimer followed by reaching on an error. That set up Ehralyn Eisiminger’s two-run single that gave Waynesburg the lead.

  • Maddie Blaker threw a three-hitter and struck out 11 as Mapletown won its season opener 14-2 over host Turkeyfoot.

Mapletown scored 10 runs in the top of the second inning to take a 12-0 lead and cruised the rest of the way behind Blaker, who walked only one batter.

Faith Burkholder-Walters went 3-for-3 and Hannah Hartley had two doubles to lead Mapletown’s 14-hit attack. Taylor Dusenberry belted a triple and McKenzie Reda had a double.

  • The West Greene Pioneers fell to 0-2 to start the season after a 1-0 loss to St. Joseph Academy of Ohio at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Jade Renner was saddled with the loss, striking out 3 and walking 1. Madison Lampe was 2-for-3, and McKenna Lampe had the other hit for West Greene. St. Joseph scored the only run of the game with a sacrifice fly to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning. On the same play, Madison Lampe relayed the throw from Jersey Wise to gun down a potential second run at the plate.

Maya Jackson picked up the win for St. Joseph, striking out 16.

High school baseball

Logan Mayhle allowed only one hit over four shutout innings and Stush Ferek went 3-for-3 with four RBI as Carmichaels defeated visiting Jefferson-Morgan 15-0 in a four-inning nonsection game.

Carmichaels (2-0) scored five runs in the first inning and seven more in the second.

The Mikes’ Gavin Pratt was 2-for-3 with two doubles, Dylan Wilson was 2-for-3 and scored three runs, and Matthew Barrish hit a double.

Mayhle struck out five and did not walk a batter. A single by Devin Stoneking was the only hit for J-M (0-2).

  • Derek Timko tripled and drove in four runs to help Brownsville to an 8-7 victory over Charleroi in a non-section game. Charleroi pitching walked two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

D.J. Zimcosky had a double for the Falcons (3-0). Charleroi fell to 2-1.

College baseball

Waynesburg scored a run in the top of the ninth to force extra innings, then added eight more in the 10th to defeat host Bethany 14-6 in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game Friday.

Jonny Kutchman’s RBI single tied the score at 6-6. The yellow jackets took the lead in the 10th on a run-scoring single by Alec Fantaskey.

Brandon Durbin hit a home run for Waynesburg, Justin Buberl went 5-for-6 with a triple and three RBI and Tyler Srbinovich drove in three runs. Srbinovich was the winning pitcher with two scoreless innings of relief.
