The Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) released its first all-conference women’s lacrosse teams on Tuesday. Waynesburg University had a pair of names on this historic list.

Sophomore Breanna Martini led the way with a second-team selection. She paced Waynesburg in virtually every major offensive category including goals (21), assists (four), total points (25), draw controls (35), shots on goal (43) and total shots (53). She also tied for fourth on the team with 16 groundballs.

Senior Delaney Denniston earned honorable mention all-conference laurels after leading the Yellow Jacket defense in 2019. She finished third on the team in groundballs with 24 and second on the squad with 13 caused turnovers.

Athletes honored

Following a record-setting weekend, California University junior Alicia Collier was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

Collier broke the school record in the 200-meter dash on Saturday at West Virginia with a time of 24.76 seconds, eclipsing the previous mark set by Gabby Irving at the 2016 PSAC Championships by two-tenths of a second. She won the race by over two-tenths of a second and registered the fastest time in the league this spring by 0.16 seconds.

Collier also improved her NCAA provisional time in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.87 seconds, which is the top mark in the conference by two-hundredths of a second.

  • After their respective performances during the final week of the regular season, Washington & Jefferson College junior pitcher Ben Marsico and senior outfielder James Artale claimed weekly honors.

Marsico was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week late Monday night before adding his third PAC Pitcher of the Week award this spring on Tuesday.

Marsico limited Saint Vincent to just two hits and three baserunners in a 1-0 shutout win in Latrobe on Saturday. The junior struck out four as he recorded his second shutout of the season. With the victory, the right-hander improved to 9-1 overall and finished the regular season with a perfect 8-0 record in PAC games.

Artale secured his first PAC Hitter of the Week award after compiling a .458 batting average (11-for-24) with a team-high nine RBI and 17 total bases during the week. The senior recorded multi-hit efforts four times and launched his fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot, to help W&J past La Roche Tuesday.

  • Senior first baseman Eric Fairman was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Athlete of the Year and freshman right fielder Patrick Brogan was tabbed the PSAC West Freshman of the Year, while head coach Mike Conte garnered PSAC West Coach of the Year honors on Tuesday afternoon, as the Vulcans featured six All-PSAC West selections.

The Vulcans begin play in the PSAC Tournament today, by facing West Chester at Point Stadium in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, at 9:30 a.m. The Golden Rams boast the two-time PSAC East Athlete of the Year in first baseman Jared Melone, who led the country in batting average in 2018
