Penguins down Red Wings
Dominik Simon scored less than two minutes into the third period to break a tied game and lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 4-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL preseason.
Brandon Tanev, Brian Rust and Sidney Crosby also scored for the Penguins, who were tied at 2-2 entering the third period. Crosby’s goal with 3:41 left in regulation gave Pittsburgh a two-goal lead.
Jake Guentzel and Justin Schultz each had two assists, and Matt Murray stopped 26-of-28 shots.
Pittsburgh plays its final preseason game at home Saturday against Buffalo. It opens the season one week from today against the Sabres.
