Waynesburg University lost both games of a doubleheader to Concordia College (Minn.), 8-7 and 13-3, in the Russmatt Central Florida Invitational.
The loss for the Yellow Jackets, who began their season Sunday, drops them to 1-3.
In Game 1, Concordia’s Max Boran broke a tied game in the top of the seventh inning with a RBI single to right field to score Andy Gravdahl.
The game-winning run spoiled a comeback attempt for Waynesburg, which trailing 7-3 after surrendering seven runs in the fifth inning.
Vinny Monico, Justin Buberl, Chris Lee and Cody Ray each had four hits for Waynesburg.
In Game 2, Concordia (3-1) scored five runs in the second and four runs in both the third and fourth innings to pull away.
- Alec Graves hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to spark Walsh (Ohio) in a 12-1 win over California.
Graves’ homer powered a four-run inning for Walsh (3-3), which followed the big frame with two runs in each the fifth and sixth.
Cal (4-2) was limited to six hits, including a 2-for-4 day from Louden Conte. Conte, a California High School graduate, is batting .444 through six games for the Vulcans this season.
Presidents earn PAC honors
Laura Ryder, Kristen Fuertes and Peyton Eckenrode all earned Presidents’ Athletic Conference awards for their season-opening sweep over Penn State Greater Allegheny.
Ryder, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI was named the Hitter of the Week. Fuertes allowed just one run in five innings and struck out seven in the 12-1 win was honored as the Pitcher of the Week. Eckenrode, who had two hits and scored three runs, was the Rookie of the Week.
- W&J men’s tennis player Sam Bellini was named the PAC’s Men’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Bellini, the No. 2 singles player for the Presidents, won 6-0, 6-1 in his match against Ben Maus of Penn State Altoona. He also earned an 8-2 win in doubles with teammate James Gunn.
