College baseball

Allegheny College used a four-run third inning and a three-run fifth to defeat Washington & Jefferson, 10-3, in a non-conference game at Ross Memorial Park.

Dalton DuBois and Brett Heckert each had three hits to power the middle of the Gators’ lineup. DuBois scored twice and Heckert scored four times for Allegheny (2-2).

Joey Bolick, Evan Sante and Adam Morris all finished with a pair of hits for W&J (1-2).

  • Mitchell College limited Waynesburg University to five hits over 14 innings to win both games of a doubleheader, 3-0 and 13-0, in the Russmatt Central Florida Invitational.

In Game 1, Roland Thivierge threw a seven-inning complete game for Mitchell (4-3). He allowed just one hit, struck out seven and didn’t surrender a walk.

In Game 2, the bottom four batters of Mitchell’s order combined for 10 RBI in a 13-0 shutout victory. Jeremy Santos, the No. 9 hitter, went 2-for-3 with four RBI.

Waynesburg (1-7) scattered four hits in the second game of the doubleheader. Vinny Monico had two singles for the Yellow Jackets.

Cal trio chosen to All-PSAC teams

California University men’s basketball players Brent Pegram and Zyan Collins were named to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division teams. Pegram was a first-time selection and Collins was on the second team.

Pegram, a junior, was third best in the league in scoring with 20 points per game. He averaged 2.1 steals, which was best in the PSAC, and was third in assists with 5.1 per game.

Collins, a sophomore, was second in scoring for the Vulcans, averaging 14 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists. He also had a team-high 28 blocks.

Bianca Jasper, a junior on Cal’s women’s team, was named to the PSAC West Division second-team. Jasper eclipses career highs by averaging 10.3 points to lead the Vulcans. She was also top five in the league in assists (5) and steals (2.4).

Pitt-Johnstown’s Josh Wise, a Washington High School graduate, was also a first-team selection.
