1961 – Jerry Norton of St. Louis becomes the only NFL player to have four interceptions in a game twice. He picks off four, two for touchdowns, in the Cardinals’ 30-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
1966 – Bob Miltenberger catches a five-yard halfback pass from Rich Dahar with less than one minute remaining to give Waynesburg College a 30-27 victory over New Mexico Highlands in the NAIA football semifinals in Albuquerque, N.M.
1968 – Southern California running back O.J. Simpson is the runaway winner of the Heisman Trophy.
1976 – Tony Dorsett rushes for 224 yards and tops 6,000 for his career as Sugar Bowl-bound Pitt defeats Penn State 24-7 at Three Rivers Stadium to cap an 11-0 regular season.
1982 – Nick Gancitano kicks four field goals and second-ranked Penn State defeats Pitt, 19-10, assuring that the Nittany Lions will play for the national championship in the Sugar Bowl against Georgia.
1986 – The Pittsburgh Pirates acquire pitchers Doug Drabek, Brian Fisher and Logan Easley in a trade with the New York Yankees. The Pirates give up pitchers Pat Clements, Cecilio Guante and Rick Rhoden.
1989 – Dwayne Woodruff returns a fumble 21 yards for a touchdown and the Pittsburgh Steelers overcome an early 14-point deficit to beat the Miami Dolphins 34-14 in a game played in a driving rainstorm Joe Robbie Stadium.
1998 – Referee Phil Luckett mishears the call by Pittsburgh captain Jerome Bettis during the coin flip before overtime, thus giving the football to the Detroit Lions, who go on to beat the Steelers 19-16 in a Thanksgiving Day game.
2016 – Nate Peterman throws for 251 yards and four TDs and runs for another score to lead Pittsburgh past Syracuse 76-61 — the most combined points for a regulation FBS game.
