1916 – Georgia Tech beats Cumberland 222-0 in the most lopsided college football game in history.

1950 – The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns meet for the first time. The Browns win, 30-17, at Forbes Field.

1954 – Tom Peterson caps a 40-yard drive midway through the fourth quarter with a 16-yard run around right end as undefeated and untied Avella High School wins at Hickory, 6-0.

1981 – Trinity defeats Peters Township 6-2 in boys soccer. Trinity’s Mike Ault scores three goals, bringing his season total to 57, which breaks the WPIAL record.

1985 – Chuck Tanner is fired after nine seasons as manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

1988 – Bentworth’s John Stout completes a an 18-yard pass to Ray Stein, who laterals to Brian Belski, who covers the final 25 yards for a touchdown late in the first half and the Bearcats defeat previously undefeated McGuffey 7-6 in a Century Conference game.

2005 – West Greene’s Cody Miller rushes for 312 yards and four touchdowns on 35 carries, and throws a 7-yard touchdown pass, as the Pioneers defeat Frazier, 42-33.

2015 – Jake Arrieta allowed four hits in nine dominant innings and the Chicago Cubs rolled to a 4-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NL wild-card game.

HOLE-IN-ONE

Levi West of West Alexander had a hole-in-one Tuesday at Dogwood Hills Golf Course. West aced the 125-yard No. 3 hole by using a sand wedge. His playing partners were Jay Butterfield, Jeff Butterfield and Zack Smith.
