1952 – Eddie Kila strikes out 14 and takes a no-hitter into the final inning to lead Monongahela to a 3-2 first-round win over Mooresville, N.C., in the Little League World Series.

1969 – Mosi Tatupu hits two home runs and drives in five, powering Honolulu to an 8-5 victory over Arcadia, Calif., in the Pony League World Series championship game.

1971 – The Pittsburgh Steelers trade veteran linebacker Marty Schottenheimer to the Baltimore Colts for a draft pick.

2002 – The Pittsburgh Pirates trade outfielder Brian Giles to the San Diego Padres for pitcher Oliver Perez, outfielder Jason Bay and a player to be named.
