1951 – The Philadelphia Phillies trade catcher Andy Seminick of Muse to the Cincinnati Reds in an eight-player deal.
1958 – The University of Pittsburgh agrees to buy Forbes Field from the Pittsburgh Pirates and lease it to them for five years‚ or until a new municipal stadium is built.
1966 – Rich Dahar scores three touchdowns, passes for another and rushes for 233 in leading Waynesburg College to a 42-21 victory over Wisconsin-Whitewater in the NAIA championship football game in Tulsa, Okla. Dahar carried 41 times as Waynesburg scored on drives of 68, 72, 72, 41, 80 and 53 yards.
1971 – The New York Mets trade hard-throwing pitcher Nolan Ryan to the California Angels in exchange for third baseman Jim Fregosi, who will play only 45 games with the Mets. Ryan goes on to win 295 more games with the Angels, Houston Astros and Texas Rangers and throws a record seven no-hitters.
1973 – John Colombo becomes the first soccer player in Trinity High School history to be named first team all-state.
1976 – The Pittsburgh Pirates acquire relief pitchers Rich Gossage and Terry Forster from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for outfielder Richie Zisk and pitcher Silvio Martinez.
1994 – Rashaan Salaam of Colorado, who led the nation in rushing, scoring and all-purpose yards, wins the Heisman Trophy over runner-up Ki-Jana Carter of Penn State.
2001 – Owners of the Washington franchise that will debut in the Frontier League in 2002 announce the team will be named the Wild Things and that former Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Kent Tekulve will be the team’s director of baseball operations.
2005 – Maura Lacey makes a three-point play in the closing seconds to cap Peters Township’s comeback from a 14-point halftime deficit as the Indians defeat Washington, 47-45, in the Girls Hoopfest at Washington & Jefferson’s Henry Memorial Center.
2007 – John Massarelli resigns after four seasons as manager of the Washington Wild Things. His .626 winning percentage is the best in Frontier League history.
2009 – The Trinity school board opens all of the Hillers’ fall coaching positions, including that of head football coach Ed Dalton, who in 11 season had 54 victories including two in the WPIAL playoffs.
2011 – Corey Hunsberger has 21 points and eight rebounds, leading Trinity to a 59-50 victory over Washington in the semifinals of the EQT Energy Classic at Canon-McMillan.
