1959 – Pittsburgh’s Dick Stuart hits the longest home run at Forbes Field, a shot over the center-field wall off Chicago pitcher Glenn Hobbie.
1964 – Dennis Vugrinovich pitches a 12-inning shutout and George Visnich scores the game’s only run on a throwing error as Monongahela defeats Penn Hills 1-0 in the WPIAL baseball semifinals at Vandergrift. Vugrinovich strikes out 17, throws a two-hitter and lowers his ERA to 0.46.
1968 – Karl King pitches a two-hit shutout and Waynesburg High School scores three times in the sixth inning to beat Gateway 3-0 in the opening round of the WPIAL baseball playoffs at Charleroi.
1976 – Despite getting three home runs by Bill Robinson, Pittsburgh loses to San Diego, 11-9, in 15 innings.
1986 – Dave Snatchko pitches a three-hit shutout as Fort Cherry defeats Tussey Mountain 3-0 in the PIAA Class AA baseball quarterfinals at Mt. Pleasant.
1991 – Jan McConnell, athletic director at California University for 10 years, resigns.
2003 – Peters Township scores nine runs in the fifth inning, including three on an opposite-field homer by Mark Meucci, and beats Shaler 9-5 in the PIAA Class AAA baseball West Region semifinals.

1956 – John Dunn pitches a one-hitter and smacks a three-run homer as Burgettstown Union defeats Baldwin 4-0 in the WPIAL baseball quarterfinals in Dormont.
1988 – Garry Cathell, coach at West Point High School in Virginia, is hired as the head football coach at Peters Township High School.
