1905 – The Pittsburgh Pirates strand 18 baserunners in an 8-3 loss to the Cincinnati Reds to set a National League record for men left on base.
1956 – Butch Wise throws a 14-yard touchdown pass to Calvin Henry with 25 seconds remaining to give Trinity High School a 25-20 season-opening football victory over Chartiers at College Field.
1961 – Glenn Tedrow scores on a six-yard touchdown run with five minutes remaining to give West Greene High School a 7-0 season-opening win at East Washington. It’s the first win for Pioneers coach Dick Gooderham.
1967 – Ed Plops throws two touchdown passes during Canon-McMillan’s 19-point third quarter as the Big Macs put a damper on the opening of Bethel Park’s new stadium by defeating the Black Hawks, 26-14.
1973 – Dennis Garrett catches a 19-yard touchdown pass from Bob Dugan in the third quarter, and Jon Culp adds a 19-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter, as visiting Jefferson-Morgan ends Chartiers-Houston’s 20-game winning streak with a 15-0 victory over the Bucs.
1978 – Mark Lauff throws a 4-yard touchdown pass to running back Mike Bradley with 38 seconds remaining, then tosses a two-point conversion pass to Bob Darabant as undefeated Burgettstown defeats Canevin 8-6.
1984 – Frazier quarterback Dan Coldren is stopped short of the goal line on a two-point conversion run on the game’s final play as visiting Carmichaels defeats Frazier, 20-19. Roger Waters returns one of four interceptions by the Carmichaels defense 35 yards for a score and also throws two touchdown passes.
1989 – Joe Kail’s two-yard touchdown run with 1:57 remaining caps a 66-yard drive that gives Peters Township a 19-14 win at Beth-Center in a Century Conference game.
1990 – Larry Pitts scores on runs of 64 and 87 yards, and George Kidwell sacks Waynesburg quarterback Mike Shulas on fourth-and-goal with less than a minute remaining as Washington & Jefferson defeats the visiting Yellow Jackets, 14-9. It’s the first meeting between the schools since 1955 and Waynesburg’s first game as a member of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.
1995 – Washington rolls over Charleroi, 42-0, for the 500th football victory in school history.
1999 – Tom Domen resigns as head football coach at West Greene High School after only one game.
