1960 – Bob Riggle runs for two scores and throws a touchdown pass to Ted Vactor as Wash High evens its record at 1-1 with an 18-0 victory over Connellsville.

1971 – Peters Township repeats as the team champion and Ringgold sophomore Melvin Boyd is the individual winner at the 6th Annual Washington County Coaches Cross County Meet. Boyd is the first underclassmen to win the individual title.

1972 – Jim Day’s one-yard touchdown runs with 7:27 left caps Wash High’s comeback from a 12-point deficit and defeats visiting New Brighton 24-20. Washington’s Guy Montecalvo rushes for 162 yards, including a 13-yard TD, on 33 carries.

1975 – Pittsburgh second baseman Rennie Stennett becomes the 20th player in the 20th century to collect seven hits in a game. The second baseman goes 7-for-7 with two doubles, a triple and five runs scored as the Pirates defeat the Chicago Cubs, 22-0, at Wrigley Field. Three of Stennett’s hits come off Canonsburg native Tom Dettore.

1978 – Waynesburg College, ranked No. 4 in the NAIA, uses two field goals by Kent Ewell and a three-yard TD pass from Larry Cernansky to Jon Culp to defeat california State, 12-0.

1994 – McGuffey, the top-ranked WPIAL football team in Class AAA, rolls up 550 total yards and scores touchdowns on four of its first seven offensive plays en route to a 41-21 victory over fourth-ranked Mt. Pleasant. Brett Shriver rushes for 178 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries.
